I'm being excessed!!!
I can't believe I'm even writing this..but after 9 years in the same school I am being excessed and I am beyond upset. My principal just called me. I have an early childhood license and guess I need to go on the open market(NYC). If anyone knows of any vacancies or has any advice for me..please message me.thanks

Re: I'm being excessed!!!
Hello,
I just wanted you to know that I am in the same boat as you! I have just completed 11 years and am Early Childhood appointed too. I was a select few hired at the inception of my school in 2001. I am being excessed (although I didn't get a letter from the BOE YET, did you?) because I am Non-Hispanic and my horrendous, discriminatory Principal claims that she doesn't need me, whose monolingual anymore and has made 85% of our classes (its an Early Childhood School) Bilingual. Of course I've already started the grievance process and will fight this til the end but wanted you to know that you're NOT alone. What district are you in? I am in District 30, Queens. I have been applying and have done so for several years in Open Market and nobody calls, EVER.
Also, keep in mind, at least we have our job meaning benefits/salary, etc., whever we might be.
If you ever want to talk, let me know.
Feel Better!
Keri

Meant to ask you, do you live on LI or in the city?
And I am NOT good with change at all either. In my situation, my family keeps saying to me that this is a blessing in disguise and why would I want to be in a place where I'm treated as the "minority"?

I live in Queens. I can't even imagine being in a school and being treated unfairly, so maybe this is a blessing for you. My fear is that i am going to get placed in a school like that, especially coming from a school that i love!

Re: I'm being excessed!!!
I will say a prayer for you. I was excessed from my school 9 years ago and ended up in a school that I loved. It closed after I had been working there for 8 years. My advice is stay positive! I found a job and never in a million years did I think I would end up in another school that I love. Things do happen for a reason, but yes I know how hard it is.

You get your full salary and benefits, always and until you find work:) We won this in our contract a few years ago

How is this possible? Why would the city bother laying off? That's pretty awesome

Excessing and laying off are not the same thing in NYC.
Wth excessing the specific school's budget was cut/ took in less students but you are still employed by the NYCDOE.
With laying off....that would be the last person hired into the entire system.
There is a hiring freeze so people who are excessed can go on to open market (along with anyone that wants to transfer) and find a job within the DOE.
