I'm not sure if I posted this before - a bit of a downer, I know... but do you ever worry about...
your child possibly having a disability?
I work with children with disabilities, so its all I see all day.... And I would know what to do if my child were to have a developmental disability, but sometimes I'm in a BOCES program, and I see these poor kids in wheelchairs - and I mean, they aren't just not able to walk, they are practically non-responsive in their chairs....
And then I see children with severe developmental disabilities. I see them young, middle school aged, and adults....
I know I am being silly and worrying for nothing, and no one ever wishes for a child with disabilities, but I pray every day that my child will be healthy.... I am in the autism field, and as much as I love the kids i work with, I wonder - what if this child were MY child?

That's my DH's worst fear - having a disabled child. Of course, he would accept any child with open arms though.

I am sure that the thought crosses everyone's mind, even if for a minute, but for those of us who are exposed to it on a daily basis (my brother has special needs), I think we do project ourselves into that role. The reality is that it does happen, but the odds are not great. The best we can do is exactly what you are doing - take care of yourself and send positive messages out into the universe

I have a similar fear because of the line of work that I am in. I work in med mal law and see a lot of cases where labor and delivery goes wrong.
But I just try to shut it out of my mind and enjoy my pregnancy.

I work with kids with pretty severe disabilities too (I'm an SLP), so yes, I worry about this ALL the time.
I think you just have to imagine that whatever happens is meant to be...

Yes, I do worry as well! I pray every day for a healthy child. I work with young children as well and have seen different disabilities. We are going to love our baby no matter what, but, yes, we do think about it.

Yes I do worry about it. DH and I will love our child, disability or not, but we all hope for healthy children and for our children to have the best life possible. I get very upset now when I see children with disabilities and wonder if it can happen to us. Luckily all of our tests came back ok thus far, but I am also worried about my child being autistic being it seems so prevelant today and can happent to anyone.

Not PG yet but I worry all the time. I teach special ed and sometimes too much information, background and research can be a dangerous thing. The only thing I could say is that if I were to have a child with a disability, I would be equipped to handle it BUT I would quit my teaching job and either teach with my ELED license or get certified to teach another non-special ed area. I am emotionally drained at the end of the day as it is. I simply could not do my job 24 hours a day. I'd need a break and I think thats human.

I too have thought about it, which is hard not to do. But I don't let it take over my mind.
