I'm serioulsy going to murder the next person that tells me I'm feeding DD too much!!!
So DD was in the 95% percentile for length at her 2 month appt and 85% percentile for length. She was 24inches and 12.3lbs...She is sleeping through the night, but during the day she still eats about 6oz every 3 hours and then a 6 oz bottle right before bed, so she's eating anywhere between 32-36oz a day....She is a bit chubby she has adorable cheeks and the rolly polly legs, but by no means ridiculous!!! Everyone has been on my case, meaning my parents DH's parents and now DH that I'm feeding her too much!!! I feed her when she's hungry, I don't force the bottle, when she starts crying I will give her a bottle bc that is what she wants, she's not wet, or uncomfortable she's HUNGRY!!!! She's an eater..I was a chubby baby and I turned out FINE...I'm seriously ready to blow, I have my 3 month appt this week and I'm really curious as to what my ped will tell me! But anyone experience this, bc I'm ready to leave all these knowledgeable people with a hugry screaming baby and see how they deal!!!!!!!

Re: I'm serioulsy going to murder the next person that tells me I'm feeding DD too much!!!
im sooo the wrongest one to ask this, because IM the one who always thinks im overfeeding my dc..i think its because i had serious weight issues when i was younger, and was actually pretty obese my whole life..so i tend to worry that this will overflow onto my kids from a genetic point...i remember when ds was a baby/toddler, i REALLY used to freak out about what he was drinking/eating..and i thought he was HUGE...(he was over 10lbs at birth) everyone thought i was nuts, and i couldnt understand it, until now...when i look back at pics of him and see how lil and tiny and perfect he really was..i feel terrible..i actually think i gave him a food complex, and now i think he actually eats to spite me sometimes..and has gotten alil overweight.. anyway what im trying to say is, that i think adults give children the WRONG idea about food intake, and it starts when theyre babies..that being said, i think you should listen to what your ped says, and tell everyone else to mind their business

I have no advice except that people are mean
I have the opposite issue where DS REFUSES to eat and is lucky if he is in the 20% percentile
Point? People are going to say things no matter what. What I do is listen and nod and read my books about what is okay with my baby and what the ped says
good luck

Thats exactly it!!! she's a BABY I mean talk about starting her out young with a food complex!!!! I'm nutso about my weight and always have been bc my parents definitely liked to overstuff me, and I think now, my Dad especially realized how hard it was for me when I was younger and with kids making fun of me, he doesn't want that for her, but I lost all my weight at puberty and I mean she's freaking 3 MONTHS old!!!!!!!!!!!! She's crying, what would you like me to do, starve her...I told DH that, I said I honestly don't care what anyone else thinks excpet for the pediatrician...The worst is my MIL who is extremely heavy and diabetic, so I think she is putting her own fears onto the baby, and yes genetics is a big deal, but I'll worry about that when she's a bit older not 3 months old!!! UGH, can you tell I'm angry!!!!

DS was on the same schedule at that age!!! The only opinion that matters is your peds! IF the baby's hungry, she's HUNGRY, end of story!!! BUT my ped did tell me that at that age, the MAX he should be getting was 32oz. So I ended up giving 4 oz instead of 6 for 2 of his midday feedings and that worked just fine. I'm sure your ped will have no problem with the amount she's eating, just run over your schedule with him and take it from there!

Re: I'm serioulsy going to murder the next person that tells me I'm feeding DD too much!!!
I totally understand where you're coming from. I know that I've posted a lot regarding my in-law's constant critisim that I'm overfeeding DD. Its extremely frustrating because they act like you don't know what you're doing. If your ped is happy with your baby's progress and doesn't have a problem with the amount of food your giving, then no one else should have. I had a talk with DH a few weeks ago because my MIL finally crossed the line when she told me that I'm definately overfeeding Shaylie. I stormed out and DH followed and I begged him to talk to his mother about the criticism. He did and it has made a world of difference. Its one thing of having your in laws criticize, but I can't image have my parents and DH join the band. If they all have these concerns, give them you ped phone # and have them speak to the doctor themselves.
Shaylie is 9 weeks and drinks between 5-6 oz. When we went to my in law's yesterday, Shaylie was acting up and I knew she was hungry. MIL was tending to her and tried to give her her binky. She kept spitting it out and I told her to give her the bottle. She couldn't believe that she took it and drank the whole thing. She thought it was too soon after her last feeding. Oh well, Mommy knows best

Worry about what your ped thinks not what others do. That is the important opinion that counts. People will always have something to say one way or another you are either not feeding them enough or too much - so that is why I think it is important to listen to the ped - and if the ped says it is fine than I would tell them the ped says she is right where she should be.

Re: I'm serioulsy going to murder the next person that tells me I'm feeding DD too much!!!
If she's hungry - feed her. Just ignore what other people say. My daughter was only 6 lbs 12 oz when she was born and gained weight quickly but the doctors said that was great and healthy. My daughter also had the chubby cheeks and rolls on her thighs and I think it's adorable. Strangers would always ask how old she was and when I would answer they would be shocked and say they thought she was almost 2 months older. She wasn't that bad but it's hard not to feel insulted and then second guess yourself. She's still feeding on demand so if she's hungry just feed her and if your doctor is ok with her progress and how much she takes in then just relax and enjoy your little girl.

I totally can I understand. In fact, my DS is about the same weight but only about 22.5 inches. The whole percentile thing drives me nuts anyway. I try to let it not bother me. Luckily most of my family & friends don't say much (all though I know my MIL and her sister think he's huge).

Re: I'm serioulsy going to murder the next person that tells me I'm feeding DD too much!!!
if you are overfeeding your DD then i must be equally as cruel to my DS - at 5 months he was taking 40 oz. well over the "limit" of what was recommended but it was what he wanted!! he is 50% for weight but 75% for height and my ped never said a word to me.
now that he is on solids he takes less in formula and is within the "normal" range now.
bottom line is you are right not to listen to them - and if i were you (and of course this is easier said than done ) i would tell them that you appreciate the adivce but the only advice on your baby's feeding schedule you are interested in is that of your pediatrician, since THEY are the expert.
think about it: someone has to have a big baby! otherwise percentiles wouldn't exist and if she is happy then what is wrong with that?

Re: I'm serioulsy going to murder the next person that tells me I'm feeding DD too much!!!
Kids that age need to be fed when hungry imo. As my ped told us, if she over eats the worst that will happen is she will spit up.
I remember people telling me that I was feeding DD too much, she should only be fed every 4 hours, yada yada yada-at 19 months old she is in the 25% for weight-no issues hear, thank you very much

Re: I'm serioulsy going to murder the next person that tells me I'm feeding DD too much!!!
As long as your ped is OK, then it's fine, especially if she's that high in the length percentile.
DD started eating a LOT when she was very young. She would cry for the bottle constantly, and we would give it to her. After ped mentioned that she might not be hungry, we started with the pacifier. It wound up for DD that she just wanted to suck, not necessarily eat. Her weight leveled out after that.
I'm not saying you need to do that, just mentioning what happened with us....
Once they start walking, their weight settles, since they are burning a lot of calories.
SIL's nephew was a VERY chubby baby.... Once he started walking, though, it all melted away, and now that he's 5, he is basically the perfect weight.

Re: I'm serioulsy going to murder the next person that tells me I'm feeding DD too much!!!
I am experiencing the opposite. I was worried I was feeding DD too much, and no one agreed with me. Drs told me not to worry, feed her when she is hungry, etc. So now I don't worry about it anymore.
My DD was large from before birth, so that's just her metabolism at this point. She too has cheeks and chubby legs and belly. At just under 4 mths, she is 17.5 lbs (was born one mth early at 7.4 lbs).
Just talk to the ped and go with what they say, I did.

Re: I'm serioulsy going to murder the next person that tells me I'm feeding DD too much!!!
I know EXACTLY what your going through! ... DS is in the 95th percentile for both weight and height. At his 2 month check up he grew 5 in. and doubled his weight.. he eats 6 oz every 3-4 hours, and just started sleeping through the night..
My ped. said he's growing very fast, and thats why he is eating so much.. but my father likes to tell me that he eats like my oldest brother did when he was a baby, and now he's obese ..
my ped. said that eating habits are formed when they are older and most obese people dont exercise its not cause they ate "to much" milk

Our babies are almost the same age right? My boys are drinking 7-8oz at a feeding every 3-3.5 hours. They weigh 13 and 14 lbs approx. My Dr said you eed infants as much as they want-do not limit them-they will stop if they are not hungry. Don't listen to anyone else. If you are concerned ask your Dr but I bet you will get the same info

I'm on the opposite end--DS is tall, but skinny and has been since birth. His pediatrician says he is healthy and gaining at an okay rate, this is just his body composition. Family never said anything, but I have had strangers ask me if we feed him. Not lately, he seems to have filled out a bit, but maybe a couple months ago when he was learning to walk and extra skinny.
Your baby is fine I'm sure. Just ignore them, or explain she is eating just fine.

That's good, see what your doctor says, but most likely, DD is fine. Some babies gain before they begin to crawl or walk or before a growth spurt. So unless your doctor says she needs to eat less, I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Exactly. My DS was consistently 95% for weight and height since birth and the ped was fine with it, since he was grwoing proportionally. The one thing she recommended was starting solids at 4 months, so he wasn't going over 40 oz. of formula per day.
My son was and still is a big boy. He was wearing 24 month clothing at 10 months because he was big - we had to cuff all the sleeves and a lot of the pants. But, once he started crawling more and standing and crusing, he slimmed down a lot - he is 15 months now and is just now starting to grow out of the 24 month clothing. Don't listen to what other people say. If she isn't hungry, she won't take the bottle.
