I'm so mad at myself
Last night I went to party city to exchange a costume. There was a boy there (teens) with his mother and the boy clearly was not "typical." I assume he may have been autistic or what have you. I felt badly for him already, because he wanted his mom to buy him a costume and she seemed aggravated and said no- because he'd never go trick or treating. I didn't judge her but it did break my heart a little.
The boy went to go on the line and entered it at the wrong entrance. I was being rung up and the other cashier (not mine) was some little teen ***** (you will see why) and she loudly told him he went the wrong way. The boy listened and went the other way. My cashier - an older woman - said to little ***** , "aw you made him sad." And then they both started laughing. The little ***** didn't just chuckle and leave it at that - she continued laughing hysterically and loudly. The older cashier said to her, "you're so mean" and she kept laughing.
I'm sure the kid overheard all of this as he was on the line.
I'm so mad at myself for not saying anything. I literally was shaking and my heart was racing (I hate confrontation when it's unexpected) and I knew if I opened my mouth, it would be a huge scene. I'm very nice and shy and kind of soft spoken - but things like this turn me into an animal.
I'm still so mad at myself for not unleashing. For having that little ***** laugh hysterically at him in front of a line of people. His mom joined the line later - I think he was holding her spot - so I don't think she witnessed this.
This is still on my mind from last night. I plan on writing a letter and copying it to everyone and anyone - plus send a copy to the store. The ***** didnt have her name tag on so I don't know her stupid name.
Just a vent I guess.
I vow to never stay silent again. If that were my kid, I'd hope someone would stand up for him. And I didn't. I failed.

I'm so mad at myself
It's ironic because I'm more disgusted at myself for not saying anything more than I'm disgusted with those women.

Call the store manager and issue a complaint! Human beings really are disgusting creatures sometimes!
Don't beat yourself up, you were in the moment, and probably just dumbfounded at the employee(s) utter stupidity & ignorance.
I know I would be.

Re: I'm so mad at myself
WOW. Do you mind sharing which party city it was? So i can make a point to never shop there.
You can't beat yourself up for what you think you "should have" done. I would have likely said something-because I am a hot headed special ed teacher- but who knows, it could have drew more attention to the situation and made the boy even more uncomfortable.
I think writing a letter is a great idea. If you want to go the extra mile, go back to the store and find out their names.

Yeah I plan on that too. I seriously was shaking. Couldn't even form words. It was like I wasn't myself. I was just in such a state of rage. Like now I can see where people snap, you know?

Ugh I really dislike that store. Every single time, DH & I have gone in there it's a struggle to find someone to ring us up, or help us find something.

Re: I'm so mad at myself
That's awful.
And honestly, I don't know how I would've reacted either, because I probably would've been shocked.
It's easy to find out who is on a schedule.
We do this all the time at work.
I think you should definitely fille a complaint---that is horrendous behavior.
Also maybe use Twitter.
I have heard ladies on here that this has worked for them in the past with getting issues resolved.

OMG When I first read, I thought the lil' ***** was a young teen shopper. I then realized you meant she was a cashier. I hope you call the manager of the store. What a disgrace making fun of children no less handicapped children. Did you get her name?

Re: I'm so mad at myself
It sounds like one of those John Quinones, What Would You Do? moments. As a mom to a child who is not typical this story makes me so sad. I absolutely would want someone to stick up for my sweet little boy if employees started making fun of him.I too am like you wherein I hate unplanned confrontations (not a huge fan of planned ones either!) but it doesnt sound like you were the only one that was quiet either. I would write a letter. I did the same when I complained about a Stop and Shop employee whose name I didnt get. They were able to figure out who it was. Thanks for mentioning it was Centereach. I live close by. I feel like going in there, filling my cart with 100 things, have her price check them all and then not take anything. I'd also make sure DS spilled his juice on her too as we left

EXACTLY THIS!! I am so sad to read this. Once, I had a young xray tech (and she was not a teen!!) laugh and say something about DS when they tried to get an x-ray. Needless to say I am not allowed in that office anymore

This makes me sick. What ******* !! I'd call the store, ask to speak to the manager and issue a complaint. That is unacceptable behavior.

People are horrendous creatures sometimes..it's very very sad. It's a combination of ignorance and stupidity usually..I've witnessed it myself many times.
I would call and speak with a manager. Don't worry about not speaking up..your heart is in the right place. Next time you ever witness something like that you'll know to speak up.
I will never understand how human beings can be so cruel to one another.

That is horrible and heartbreaking.
Check your receipt to see if the cashiers name is on it. If not the time stamp and transaction number may help too.

Re: I'm so mad at myself
Don't beat yourself up those b itches will get theirs!!!
I was in a situation on a supermarket line and to this day regret not speaking up. Like you was caught off guard. A little b itch cashier was tormenting and practically making fun of an old lady to her face but the old lady didn't really get what was going on. Then the b itch's friend gets in the act. I wanted to choke both of them. I did nothing but wish disease on them. They were fired eventually.
As a pp said, you know for next time.

They're awful!
Do that boy, yourself & everyone else who is walking into that store & tweet Party City:
https://twitter.com/PartyCity
From my experience, corporations don't take notice unless it's brought to their attention - and even then it takes the risk of a story going viral for them to care.

Re: I'm so mad at myself
i would absolutely write a letter. if you put a copy of your receipt in the letter they will be able to find out who was working at that exact time and who was assigned to a cash register. this is absolutely horrible and classless.

Re: I'm so mad at myself
THat is HORRIBLE!
I would send a letter or email to the manager and to the head corporate office describing this and demanding some kind of tolerance training be implemented. If you include the time you visited the store the manager should be able to figure out who you were talking about.
And I agree - post it on twitter

Exactly! As a mom of 2 special needs children I'd love for someone to stick up for them and I'd LOVE to see the cashier fired right then and there in front of everyone.
I am happy to see you did write a letter and also put it on Twitter.
People make me sick.

That's awful. I probably would have been so turned off I would put my things down and just leave the store and make a complaint. As someone who works in retail for many years that is just completely unprofessional not to mention insensitive as a human being. Start with the store manager. I'd be mortified to find out one of my employees was behaving that way...

Re: I'm so mad at myself
as long as you can give them the time you were there and maybe even the information off your receipt they will know who rung you up and it will be easy for them to figure out who the other cashier was.
