I'm worried sick about getting my teaching certificate (dont move to teaching!!!)
I have a provisional certificate. I need to get my professional certificate soon, and havent been teaching in a school, although I work full time in schools through the center where I work. I'm in a holding pattern to see if that will be ok to allow me to get my professional certification. If I miss out on getting the certificate, I will have to start all over again, and that scares me....
I'm so worried about not being able to get my certificate, I dont know what to do. Its all I can think about - its consuming me....

You will do fine.
You were worried sick about the other exam earlier this year and it went fine.

But this one I have no control over - this is up to the state to approve my work experience as acceptable to get my certificate...
But thanks Sophie

Re: I'm worried sick about getting my teaching certificate (dont move to teaching!!!)
you have provisional or initial?
As some posters said on the Teacher Board, as long as you get it documented from your schools, NYS should be ok.
Email NYS. Call. Email again.
Also, check the Cert requirements on nysed...maybe the language there will clear it up??

thank you.
I am getting obsessive and consumed with this.
I cant find a number to call!!! I was thinking of emailing again because I didnt hear from them.
I can't find any other info on the website that makes this clear for me, which is frustrating....

I found this but I don't know if it will help you at all.
What about the college you attended? I found that there were people at my colleges who were pretty well versed in certification stuff. And maybe BOCES?
SED Org Chart
If you were a dodo like me, and accidentally checked off that you'd been convicted of a felony, someone from the State Ed Dept would call YOU. (Yes, I did this by accident, and someone had to call to verify that it was really a mistake.)
Good luck!

The numbers on the bottom left of each blue square are phone numbers, minus the 518 area code, with more offices and numbers listed- I didn't read through the whole thing, maybe there will be a phone number for the office you need.

Re: I'm worried sick about getting my teaching certificate (dont move to teaching!!!)
I would call BOCES. I would also call the state ed dept. and stay on hold until someone answered. When is your provisional up? If you had to start over, would you have to go back to school or just get an initial certificate instead?
*The number for NYSED is 518-474-3852

Just stay on top of them, Liza, whenever you do get the number. Last year, my job wanted to send me home for a few days until my license renewed. I forgot to check one little box and it went unnoticed and unprocessed for over a month.

I'm in the same boat as you.... It's all I think about. AFter Feb of 2009, they are no longer taking transcripts to look at, so I always freak out about what happens if I make one tiny mistake... Hope it all works out for you!
