Immune Issues- Who has them?
Hey. Just trying to see who I can connect with on here that also has the diagnosis of immune issues for not getting pregnant. I have a DS from IVF with immune meds protocol. Anyone else have a child already and also has an immune issue diagnosis?
We were initially unexplained and then a partial DQ Alpha match was found with my husband and I and we used Prednisone and Intralipids. My NK Cells weren't activated at this time but was told they will be over time. No other issues were found after so many different types of tests.
Anyways just looking to see if anyone has the same issue so we can connect on here. There really isn't a lot of information out there about this. We can even make this an immune update thread if people have interest.
P.S. If you are unexplained and had multiple failed IUIs and IVFs I would seriously suggest immune testing. Any questions, just ask.
Thanks!

Immune Issues- Who has them?
me - I think you know some of my story. I have a 4yo DS. Since then, TTC for over 3 years with 2 mmc and 2 chemicals. I did all the testing with Dr. B and met with him last month for results. We knew DH and I were exact DQa matches from Dr. T testing, but it goes beyond that... we have a lot of matches.. and I honestly don't even understand half of Dr. Bs report. I am having a lap and ovarian drilling this Wednesday to rule in/out endometriosis and then will get immune protocol from Dr. B.
I had done intralipids and prednisone with Dr. T but no success so we are going to try a bit with Dr. B as our last attempt at DC#2

Ovarian drilling is a miracle. Wish it got more press and was more widely used! Best of luck!!

Re: Immune Issues- Who has them?
I had a baby 7 years ago - no issues.
We started trying 2 years after....long story, but needless to say, it was a rough road. After 4 losses (including a 20 week loss), we were diagnosed with immune issues including a genetic thrombophilia: PAI-1 Gene Polymorphism (4G/5G) and a partial HLA match (DQA) by Dr. Kofinas.
We had done 3 cycles of IVF with RSNY after the losses with no successful pregnancies. They didn't believe in immune issues and refused to explore this at my request.
Dr. Kofinas told me that "IVF isn't for everyone" which was absolutely the case for me. I did a TI cycle with Femara (and a variety of other meds) and had a successful pregnancy. My baby is 7 months old tomorrow.
I am amazed at how many doctors I've met (both in the fertility field and not) who don't believe in immune issues. My story is a case study.

They cauterize the tissue in multiple places on the ovary. It destroys any hypercathartic (so?)--basically hardened and tough-- tissue hat can contribute to imbalanced hormones and poor egg quality. In my case I started ovulating on my own shortly after the surgery and was pregnant from an IUI 4 months later. That was after 4.5 years of trying and 2 failed IVFs. Even after the pregnancy I ovulate and get periods on my own, something that never happened before.

Thanks for all of the responses! Glad to see I'm not alone. I am trying to learn more about all of this.

Yeah I've followed your story too. We've both been on this board for a while. So if you are an exact match are your NK cells elevated? Did you have any difficulty conceiving your son?
I wonder how Dr. B's protocol will differ from Dr. Ts. Please keep me updated. I hope he has answers for you and a good plan to make DC #2 happen.

Wow. Luckily Dr. Kofinas found the issue. My first RE would not explore immune issues and didn't believe they were valid. Since I was unexplained and every test he gave me came back normal I knew something else was going on. I'm glad it all worked out for you and I'm sorry for your losses!

I am not sure about what you are trying to say. What do you think solved your problem? What do you think really was the problem?

I am trying to say that the combination of timed intercourse, the right meds and Dr. K's knowledge of immune issues solved the problem. My problem was likely the thrombophilia. IVF was never going to work for me because I have a clotting issue that was never diagnosed by my RE.

Ok thank you. Did you take anything for your clotting issue? I don't recall seeing you write that.
