Re: In France, Breast is not Best
I was surprised to read this - I thought the country was pro-breastfeeding too. My former exchange student from France used a pic of her breastfeeding as her facebook profile pic!

The rate is about 50%
Aside from topless at the beach, French people are rather prude. Especially with exposing self while BFing.

I just think it's another POV .......
Personally in THIS country, in OUR hospitals I feel that BFing is shoved down your throat like you're a horrible, terrible person for not doing it - Even in every freakin' child care book I picked up ...........they all started the formula feeding section w/ "Breastmilk is best for your baby, but if you choose not do blah blah blah" ........
So, there it's the opposite -
I'm not saying EITHER is right .......
ITA, personally I think (JMO!!) BF it totally hyped up here in the states, but this article really bothers me.

It wasn't long ago that the United States discouraged BFing as well. Apparently we've gone from one extreme to the other but personally I rather it shoved in my face then viewed as something to be ashamed about.

Re: In France, Breast is not Best
On a side not, for a country like the US where BF'ing is so strongly pushed on new mothers, there is nowhere to BF when you are out and about! When I come home to LI, I find BF'ing in public really hard, when I went out to the parking lot, say, at the source, I see numerous women in their cars BF'ing babies. When I was on LI I asked at the Source if they had a place where I could feed my baby, and they sent me to a "Family Room" at the food court, I waited until it became available and a young guy came out, he had just done a huge dump in the toilet there, so it was unusable for anyone, and there was no chair. Disgusting! I have one of those covers, but my dd hates being covered up, and I think they just draw more attention to you! It seems like the push BF'ing at you, but as you don't get much maternity leave, you can't seem to do it for a long time! Its a real contradictino!
At my local mall, we have BF'ing rooms in every bank of bathrooms, and all the big department stores have BF'ing lounges with all kinds of facilibies. But, the nicest place I BF my baby ever was the bathroom at Bloomgingdales in Roosevelt Field!!!

Re: In France, Breast is not Best
the way the article is worded just begs for drama! i'd be surprised if it hasn't escalate to that yet. "Breastfeeding – particularly after two or three months – is regarded in France as something akin to drinking your own urine." seriously??

That is disgusting! ITA, they say they encourage BF yet don't help to support it (typical I think of this country in many ways)...
