In need of Museum trip ideas!
So the teachers in my school have to come up with a Social Studies based museum trip. Last year we went to the Museum of Natural History it wasn't age appropriate for Social Studies (K-3 school). So I need ideas!
Us teachers are going to visit the museum on Election day as part of our PD to scope it out.
I already looked up The NYC transit Museum and they have some really cool stuff.
Can anyone head me in the right direction? My school is in Queens so anything in Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Nassau is preferable. TIA!

I have never been, but the Museum of Televison and Radio has cool programs.
Also Museum of the City of NY- we did a program there about urban planning a few years ago- it was awesome! They have a big variety of programs.

Re: In need of Museum trip ideas!
These are not museums, but they are Social Studies.
I have taken my students to Alley Pond Park, Queens in April for the past few years. It's an outdoor cutural festival...African, Native and South American. The shows are entertaining and the kids love it.
Brooklyn College also has plays through their theater department. Some of the productions are based on historical time periods.

Mount Vernon Hotel and Museum in Manhattan. We just discovered it last year and it is the best Social Studies Museum trip we have been on. Going again this year.

Re: In need of Museum trip ideas!
My friend and I took our classes to the Met in the spring. We made scavenger hunt activities for the paintings. We want to go again but plan on making it a shorter trip since it was too long for K and 1.
Also, the trip cost about $1 (just to cover the cost of the bus drivers tip and the bridge).

You should look up the South Street Seaport museum...they have all kinds of workshops for different age groups and it's really reasonable.
