in the catholic church, can you have 2 godmothers?

for #2, there are 2 people we want as godmother. there are very special reasons why we want both, and this will probably be our last child.

can you have 2 godmothers? can one be an "honorary"? both are catholics. i will, of course, ask my church when the time comes, but i was curious if anyone knows anything about this. thanks!!

oh...there will be one godfather.

You can have more than 1, but there has to be a primary one for the church records. (One male & one female for the church records).

We had two godfathers for DS's christening. Like the previous poster wrote they just need to have one main one on record. We had all 2 Godparents standing up at the church.

DD has two godmothers. Only one of them is officially on the Baptismal certificate, but both stood up with us at the ceremony.

I have 2 Godmothers Chat Icon My mom and dad had both of my aunts as mine. And my sister is one of 2 Godmothers to our little niece. I'm pretty sure my sister and the other Godmother ( my nieces Aunt on the other side of the fam) both signed the baptismal certificate and both stood up with her at the ceremony. You can do whatever you want... Chat Icon

Re: in the catholic church, can you have 2 godmothers?

My sister chose myself and my other sister for godparents. So my nephew has two godmothers. Since we don't have any brothers and neither of us were married at the time she didn't have a male she felt comfortable making a godfather.

Like previous posters though only one name will appear on church records, but the both of us stood up at the alter and attending the ceremony.
hope this helps.

I agree ~I would check with your church ~ I wanted to have two sets of godparents (just in case we only have one child) and was told that it is not allowed ~ it was even in the booklet from our class that we had to take. If I find It I will try to post the reasoning behind it...
