For those who baptized their DC in Catholic Church
I have 2 questions..
Do you know how many classes the parents have to attend before the actual baptism?
If you are going to be the godparent of another child will you have to attend classes again if you have already gone for your child?
TIA!!!

Re: For those who baptized their DC in Catholic Church
It may be different for each church but I only had to go to one "class" really just a session where they talked to you about how the baptism would go and just talked a little about bringing your child up as a Catholic. Our godparents had to have received the sacraments (had to be confirmed, etc) but never had to go to classes or even meet with the priest before the baptism.

Re: For those who baptized their DC in Catholic Church
DH and I had to take one class at night for an hour and now we have to attend a welcome blessing mass on a sunday with baby, and we can bring Godparents and grandparents. This so the congregation can welcome the baby in
ETA: they told us if you had gone to this class with in 3 years, you dont have to attend again.

Re: For those who baptized their DC in Catholic Church
I had to go to one class. My DH isn't catholic so he didn't have to go. The godparents didn't have to go, but the godmother came with me to keep me company. I didn't have to go again when my son was baptized.

I didn't need to attend classes to be a godmother, however to christen our child we had to take a 1 hour class.

There was just one class- and I was the only one that went because DH had to work and both sponsers lived out of state.
I really think it's up to the individual parish and what they *require*.

Re: For those who baptized their DC in Catholic Church
We attended a brief meeting for DD#2's christening. The godparents did not have a meeting either time and either did I when I was a godparent, although I had to get a signed document from my church stating that I was a member of the parish.

Re: For those who baptized their DC in Catholic Church
I'm pretty sure every church handles it differently. We had a private baptism for DS since my BIL is a priest. But, we had DS baptized in our parish not BIL's so we followed our parishes rules. Just DH and I had to attend a class.

I have to go to a class. It is not mandatory for the godparents, but they suggest that they attend.

Re: For those who baptized their DC in Catholic Church
We had to attend one class and it was recommended the Godparent attend. My BIL couldn't make it and my sister tried but couldn't find the class in Atlanta where she lived and they said it was fine.

In our church you are suppose to take one class however I only had to take it for my 1st son. Dh & I did not have to take any classes with our 2nd and 3rd. Also our god parents did not have to take any classes.
