In the heat, what is the first thing to "go"
in your house.
me is cooking.
we don't have A/C (and I don't really want one) so I will try to avoid cooking elaborate meals or turning on the oven.
I'll make a lot of salads and just make some meat on the stovetop or make sandwiches and such.
I cannot bring myself to boil water for pasta on a day like today
the second is any strenous house cleaning past the hour of 10 am.

Re: In the heat, what is the first thing to "go"
Agreed- I can't turn the stove on- and we have AC BBQ all the way... but even that stinks- standing over a hot BBQ!

Re: In the heat, what is the first thing to "go"
Nothing really. I pump the AC in the bedroom and the kitchen and it cools the whole apartment and then I can cook, clean whatever!
I guess it would be working out because I don't like to work out in AC and I sweat like a pig in a sauna otherwise!

All clothing must come off. I need to have a complete cool down before putting on shorts & an t-shirt. My neighbors must love me.

Re: In the heat, what is the first thing to "go"
I had CAC put in last year so nothing has to "go" when it gets hot. It's supposed to work well enough where it doesn't impact my day to day routine.
I may even grill a steak tonight. We'll see how crazy I feel when I get home.

The oven - it'd go out the window if I didn't need it in the winter .........

Re: In the heat, what is the first thing to "go"
I will say that I live in an apt, so CAC is not an option.
and we live in an old, very well constucted prewar with great walls that keep out so much heat...so we don't really need an a/c to live...
unless of course I start turning the oven on
it is also cooler when we keep the windows closed and the curtains drawn.

It truly makes such a difference. I was living in Rome in 2003 during that horrible summer where it was over 100 degrees for weeks at a time and I am NOT going to say it was a picnic - the only reason we survived was because of the building we were staying in. They didn't even have CEILING fans but we closed the shutters every day around noon and it was "okay" if we stayed inside!

Re: In the heat, what is the first thing to "go"
I try not to use the oven, but sometimes it can't be helped. We won't do any chores outside/inside until late evening, or very early morning.

Re: In the heat, what is the first thing to "go"
Definitely the oven. And, since I have to go to an actual laundromat, I will put off laundry as long as humanly possible, unless I can get to a 24-hour one at like 6 a.m. And that's happened once in my life...
