In this cold weather (Long Island) do you keep groceries in the car
if you did the errand at lunchtime at work but aren't going home for a few hours?
I went shopping during lunch and have some refrigerated items. I lugged them into the office and put them in our fridge and one of my collegues asked me why didn't I leave them in the car since it's so cold out.
I guess I hadn't really thought about it, just habit to put everything in the fridge until I go home, but I was wondering what others do.

We recently forgot to bring milk in from our car overnight. In the morning, the milk was colder than it would have been in the fridge! So yes, we have left cold items in the car if it is cold out.

Re: In this cold weather (Long Island) do you keep groceries in the car
For me I think it depends. Although it's cold out sometimes if the car is sitting in the sun it warms it up. Of course it's cloudy today
I think the only thing I would leave on a cool day in the car is maybe veggies and make sure it's out of the window. I would never leave milk, meat or anything like that. I usually would bring it in and keep it in the office fridge (I always leave a note for myself, but there have been times I left it here)

This is me exactly! I forget the milk ALOT of the time!! LOL! I am oddly nervous about leaving milk and meat outside, even though right now it's probably colder than the fridge.

If it was just a couple of hours...I'd probably just leave it in the car. It's definitely cold enough.

Re: In this cold weather (Long Island) do you keep groceries in the car
I keep a 24-pack of bottled water in my trunk during the winter. Otherwise I usually don't because I have enough room in my fridge/freezer, but my mom does this a lot.

I would leave it in the car. We have a balcony and leave stuff out overnight now if we don't have the room in the fridge.

Re: In this cold weather (Long Island) do you keep groceries in the car
DH and I shop at both Target and the grocery store once a week. We leave our perishable stuff in the car from Target when we go to the grocery store and it's fine.

Yes. I have no problem going to the supermarket, butcher & 10 other places while having food in the car that needs to be kept cold.

All the time...today in fact. And I also use my deck as a spare fridge for drinks - soda, beer, etc.

Re: In this cold weather (Long Island) do you keep groceries in the car
I go to 2 different grocery stores without going home. I leave all the groceries in my car and have never had a problem. Once, I even made a quick trip to the gym.

Re: In this cold weather (Long Island) do you keep groceries in the car
Im glad you asked this question. I watch 2 kids and sometimes I food shop in the morning when one is at school. I leave my things in the car too till I get home from work in the afternoon. I think it is cold enough so nothing will happen.
