yes!!! I couldn't imagine not having one. I probably would have had to go into the babys room 20 times a night! especially as a new mom - if I just had the audio I think I would have got up and went into the room at every little sound. With the video at least all I had to do was push a button to see her. It's also great for naps for the same reason. I also think it gets great use as they get older and can stand up or pull themselves up in the crib. Or if they end up not being great sleepers and you have to CIO or anything.

Def a necessity! Saved me many unnecessary trips into the nursery and put my mind at ease.

I do not think it is a necessity but I like having it. I actually like it now more that my son is out of the crib. i can see when he climbed out of bed and is sitting playing with his trains instead of sleeping like I thought he was!

Same here. I have an audio, but I've never even used that.

It is a def necessity in my house. My DD in on another floor across the house from my bedroom. I would never hear her. It has happend twice where I woke up and the monitor was off. I just about had a heart attack. I would be lost without it.

I like having it. DS is now 3 and I have it in his playroom. I can be in the kitchen and watch what he is doing. It's great.

Probably not a necessity - but I can't imagine not having one.

Mine has an optional battery pack - so I can take it on our boat in the summer, and I can put it in the car for those days when DS falls asleep right before we get home.

Now that she's older, it's absolutely necessary. If she is crying but still laying down, we let her cry it out. If she stands and is about to fall out of the crib, we know to dash in. We just have ours on a jewelry box on her low dresser and the height is fine. No need for it to be super high.

I def prefer a video monitor. I Especially see that it's handy when they get a little older. We use it a lot for my nephew to check on him while he sleeps especially while your doing things around the house. He's 2 1/2 now and it's great so that's why I registered for it for my little one.

Re: In your opinion, is a video baby monitor necessary?

Not in my opinion, no. I'm on Baby #3. We have an audio monitor, but it was only used with the other two when I was outside and the baby was inside sleeping, which was pretty rare. My house is small enough that i can/will hear the baby from anywhere inside.

My kids are 6.5 and 3.5 and we still use it! It also has an intercom feature which is nice when you need to talk to them, but don't feel like getting up lol. We have them wall mounted with the wires behind the dressers.

I was in the SAME situation with DD1. No good spot, thought I would be neurotic, she stayed in our room for the first 4 months anyway. But when we moved her into her room, I couldn't take it and had to go out and buy one. Chat Icon Wish I just registered for it like everyone told me to. We had to hang it from the wall and then by her curtain rod, but we made it work and peace of mind is priceless. lol

Re: In your opinion, is a video baby monitor necessary?

IMO, yes. I'm still using it with DS who is 3.5. I like that i can hear him, see what he's doing, etc. I'm especially thankful for it when he's sick or not feeling good so I can keep a close eye on him.

I like having it but it's not a necessity. I hear my DS very easily since he is just in the next room. I glad we didn't spend 200 plus dollars on one though. We bought a Foscam and use it with an iPhone app. The whole setup cost under 100 dollars. Most of the time I don't use it. But like last night when DS (he's 9.5 months) decided to learn to stand in the crib and not go to sleep it was helpful.

Necessary? No, I don't think so
But 100% recommended. It's nice to be able to see the baby when they're little but I actually find I've used it more as DS has gotten older. ESPECIALLY when we transitioned him to a toddler bed. It's a battle and to be able to see when he was getting out of bed and head him off before he came busting out of his room was a HUGE advantage. He's now 3, I still use it and have no plans of giving it up any time soon

I loved having one with DD1, especially once she started standing in the crib. And once she started trying to climb out (first time she escaped she was younger than 2), it was a must!

I could not imagine not having one. We had a hard time with placement but we just stuck a nail in the wall to get the best view of DS and will do the same with baby #2 too.

Yes. DD is a whiner and a talker in her sleep and sometimes I can hear a little sob (I always wonder what she's dreaming about) I could just a look at her, see that she's not awake and that everything is OK. It has saved me many trips to her room.
