Incompetent Cervix and Doc recommendations

Hi all,

I had a miscarriage @ 19 weeks a few months back due to what my doc suspects was IC. I would like to TTC again and am aware about the cerclage.

Those that have been through this, what type of a doctor did you have to see in additional to your regular obgyn? Or if you have any advice, please FM me.

thank you

I did not have Ic but when pregnant with triplets I saw Victor Klein in great neck who recomended a prophylactic cerclage. A lot of docs are anti cerclage today, and anti manual cervix checks which he also did at every appointment. He is a perinatologist, aka high risk ob, and he delivers too so you only have to see him and his partners. I feel like he takes cervical issues seriously. I liked him a lot. Good luck and sorry for your loss.

Re: Incompetent Cervix and Doc recommendations

Chat Icon No personal experience with this (although I just had a dr on Monday tell me I'm at a higher risk for this because of my d&e a few years ago)......

I see Dr.Kofinas and they measure my cervix at each appointment. He's a high risk dr (perinatologist). He does not deliver, but will send you out to an ob who is experienced with high risk deliveries. I know many of his patients have had this problem and had a cerclage and went on to have successful pregnancies!! Chat Icon Good luck!

Incompetent Cervix and Doc recommendations

No suggestions on the doctor but I'm very sorry for your loss. Just want to let you know that my cousin lost her first DD around 18 weeks due to IC and she went on to have 2 successful pregnancies after. They did have to put a cerclage in at 12 weeks and she was on bedrest but she delivered two healthy full term babies. Chat Icon

Like Pennycat said, Dr. Kofinas. I am 27w with twins. He checks cervix at every appointment and caught mine shortening at 19w. He had my OB perform my cerclage. He does them himself, but at his Brooklyn Hospital and happened to be out of the country for a family emergency when I needed mine, but was in contact with my OB.

Re: Incompetent Cervix and Doc recommendations

Just to add to ReRe's post, Dr. Kofinas will do a cerclage later than most OBs will too. So if you're having cervix issues, I definitely suggest seeing Dr. Kofinas so he can keep an eye on it and prescribe any meds necessary.

Re: Incompetent Cervix and Doc recommendations

My friend had this with 3 pregnancies and had the cerclage put in with all. She went to Dr. Narain? sp?? in Patchogue not sure where you are located.

I believe he's a regular OB/GYN but he delt with all of her high risk issues and delivered all 3 of her kids.

Good luck and sorry for your lossChat Icon

Incompetent Cervix and Doc recommendations

We lost our daughter due to IC at 23 weeks...please research a TAC...http://www.facebook.com/groups/Abbyloopers/ and http://www.abbyloopers.org/ has some great information. For some a TVC will work but others it will not...success with a TVC is deemed getting to viability which is 24 weeks where there is 50% survival chance...I am not willing to take that chance again and will have a TAC placed which will give me a 95-99% chance to get to full term...most MFM's do not advocate TAC's since there are only a handful of dr's that do them in the country namely dr. davis, haney and sumners...please FM me if you want more info...one loss due to IC is too many
