Indigestion

With ds I had indigestion only a little bit, with this kid I have indigestion all day. I can't even say certain foods trigger it bc everything I eat causes it. Any remedies besides popping tums?

Indigestion

My dr moved me up to Pepcid 2 x a day. It's not helping anymore though and he won't give me anything else. Drink a lot of water it helps. I also find warm milk helps but for some it makes it worse.

I was on a course of Zantac which helped a lot when I was on it -- I think its one or two pills a day for 2 weeks. Once I stopped, the indigestion came right back and I take Tums when necessary, which is almost daily. According to the directions, you can only do 1 course of Zantac every 4 months. Try drinking lots of water, which we should be doing already, but easier said than done.

I had it very bad with my son! Before my dr told me I can take Pepcid ac which wasn't until like 28 weeks I did tums, milk, vanilla ice cream, and mints. Also try not to lay down for a few hours after eating. Im sorry I know it sucks so bad! I have it only sometimes this pregnancy but the Pepcid ac helped tremendously!!!

Re: Indigestion

Water gives me indigestion. I'm always mixing it with flavored seltzer. I find the Tums chewable help much better than the regular ones and 2 peppermint Altoids after eating helps too.

Mint is supposed to aggregate heartburn, but a lot of people here are saying it helps, so it's clear it's trial and error and different for everyone. Try to figure out your trigger foods too. I actually am thinking bread may be one of mine.

I also want to suggest a wedge pillow. Best $30 I ever spent. I got it on Amazon. It helps a lot. They also say to sleep on your right, which does help at night.

Tums for short term and Zantac for longterm relief. Meds are the only thing that helps me.

I've been taking pepcid and popping tums. I've also increased my dairy consumption and it seems to be helping.

Dairy may actually hurt you longterm. Initially it's soothing, but then the fat in dairy causes you to produce more acid, causing you more heartburn.

My OB actually told me to have two glasses of milk a day to help with my heartburn.

That may be the case, but it's wrong. Drs used to recommend this, but no longer do. Milk is actually on the list of foods to avoid when you have bad heartburn.

I've been dealing with reflux issues way before I got pregnant and milk has never been a trigger food for me (although occasionally cheese and I don't get along). I know I need to increase my calcium and Vitamin D intake anyway so if it takes a couple bowls of cereal a week to do the trick, I'm in! Chat Icon

I think everyone's triggers and remedies are different. I know a lot of people who say milk and vanilla ice cream sooth the acid reflux. It definitely works for me. In fact it's sometimes been the only thing that let's me get to sleep.

Chocolate and bananas are the worst triggers for me. If it's really awful I'll take a Zantac or a Tums. I've tried vanilla ice cream which helped only a little bit.
