Re: induction or c section?? BTDT moms
are there reasons why you need to be induced? i know it's frustrating to be late but as long as you and the baby are healthy there is no reason to
if there is a reason i am sorry, you just didn't mention it

Re: induction or c section?? BTDT moms
the chances of having a successful induction depend on how "ripe" your cervix is (dilation, effacement, position, consistency) and how engaged the baby is in the birth canal. the docs take all this into consideration and give you a score (called a "bishop's score"), which tells you statistically what your chances are of successful induction vs needing c/s.
this is a good explanation: http://www.amazingpregnancy.com/pregnancy-articles/174.html
i said this in your other post, but i don't see why they wouldn't wait a little longer if everything is fine with you and the baby? i would speak with your OB about it.

Re: induction or c section?? BTDT moms
My doc waited till 42 weeks to induce me, but unlike you, I was not dilated AT ALL. They did the cervadil first and then the pitocing the whole day...NOTHING!!! Not even a CM. By 9:30pm that night, I was exhausted and hungry and tired. They gave me the option to have a c-section or try again tomorrow. I opted for the c-section. Definitely wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be and the recovery really wasn't too bad. Now with this one, I'm hoping I don't go in to labor and can make it to my scheduled c-section.
Good luck!

My dr said when i go back on thursday we will schedule an induction based on all my measurements and stuff. I will be 41 weeks. They said they dont let anyone go to 42 weeks. I just dont want to start an induction only to have a c-section in the long run. I dont want either, but Im just preparing for the worst.

See, at least with the induction you have a chance to have a vaginal birth. I would definitely try the induction before just jumping into a c-section.

i agree. i would try to wait until 42 weeks but after that i would definitely opt for the induction.

Re: induction or c section?? BTDT moms
I had an induction that led to a c-section. I was 100% effaced and 2 cm dilated when I started. I even pushed for an amount of time but my DD was stuck and would not fit through my pelvis. I ended up with a c-section. I felt as if I had gone through 2 separate labors.
However, there are many people who have had successful inductions. For me, having essentially gone through labor an a section I could not tolerate the pain of labor - especially and induced labor. My section recovery felt like a breeze in comparison to the pain I felt during my 18 hours of labor.

Re: induction or c section?? BTDT moms
I would go for the induction. I had a successful induction at 38 weeks with ds. My cervix was far from being ready so I had to have Cervidel. I wasn't dilated at all. Bur for health reasons ds had to be evicted. It took 12 hours of Cervidel and 8.5 hours of Pitocin but Ds was born without the need of a section.

Re: induction or c section?? BTDT moms
I was induced 6 days past my due date. It went very smoothly and I had a vaginal delivery.

ITA. As much as I disliked my induction (40 hours of labor, 5 of them pushing), I think the recovery is easier, and selfishly, I think your body bounces back more quickly. I was back to PP weight at 3 days after delivery, and now at 10 days past delivery my stomach is completely flat. With a c-section I think there is more trauma to your own body and stomach.

Re: induction or c section?? BTDT moms
I was induced and didn't have a c section. I'm glad I went for the induction. I was 40w and barely dilated/effaced. We did it for health reasons. Cervadil wasn't good for me (tentanic contractions) but Pitocin worked!

Re: induction or c section?? BTDT moms
i was induced and my cervix wasn't ripe at all! no effacement, no dilation, nothing! i had a vaginal delivery and am very happy with how it turned out. i did an induction for a prior medical reason.
