Infertility Success Stories

I think we could use one of these threads to boost some of our spirits. I know I could use some uplifting.....reading about so many failed attempts is making me question whether or not ths could work. Maybe you could briefly share some of your story with us to keep us all going for that next cycle that just might work. What was wrong? what you did? I searched and found one from about 1 1/2 yrs ago so i thought i'd start a new one.

TIA!

(i'm going to Xpost to PG board too)

Re: Infertility Success Stories

Hi!

I hope this helps someone. DH and I will be married for 6 years this September. In August 2004, we started TTC. We TTC'd for about 3 years Chat Icon on and off with no luck (sometimes we would put it on hold because I changed jobs a few times - that's another story). Bottom line - nothing was working. In December 2007 I saw an RE that was recommended to me by someone on these boards Chat Icon I started the diagnostic testing and it turned out I have PCOS - never knew that. PCOS can even mimic ovulation so all along I thought I was O'ing. DH had testing done as well and had a low count along with some other factors, so it was a double whammy. We decided to go ahead and try and IUI first, even though the RE said they didnt think it would work given my DH's issues. They were right - it didnt. We decided to move forward with IVF / ICSI. In July 2008, I had my first IVF cycle. BFN which was devastating to us. We were told the main cause was embryo fragmentation.

After the failed IVF cycle, I decided to switch RE's within the same practice. I moved to one of the head doctors who came highly recommended. First thing he did was put me on Metformin - which many, many PCOS patients have success on - and which my first RE told me I "didn't need". Chat Icon So I went on the Met for 3 months, did a low carb diet, also started doing yoga and seeing an acupuncturist. I also added flax seed to my diet as well as vitamin Co-Q10 which came recommended by my acupuncturist (who spec. in IF and worked at my RE office). I went off of all prescription medication besides the prenatals (I was taking anti - anxiety meds - that was super hard to wean off of but I wanted my body to be clear). I also at this time began to re-examine my faith which I personally believe gave me my miracle Chat Icon . This cycle, you could actually SEE the improvement in the quality of the embryos. On Dec. 2nd, 2008 - I got the best phone call of my life - I was pregnant! I actually was pregnant with twins but when I went back for my 2nd u/s the 2nd sac did not develop. We were sad but also overjoyed at the baby we do have! I am now 25 wks pregnant...I am enjoying every minute despite the back pain and hip numbness I am going through...my Chat Icon is due 8/11 and I still thank God every day for this miracle...but I wanted to mention that I truly believe that when I added the Met, got rid of all prescripton meds besides the prenatals and added in acupuncture, it made a huge difference for me. My cycle the 2nd time around was also a lot more aggressive. I did birth control, Lupron, Gonal-f and Low Dose Hcg both cycles - but the 2nd cycle when I switched RE's - he adjusted my dosage as I went along depending on how I was responding - he was much more aggressive. The first RE pretty much gave me a steady dose the entire time. I wish everyone on here lots of Chat Icon and hope that I helped! Chat Icon

Re: Infertility Success Stories

Well, I sure can't share a story of my own personal experience just yet......b/c nothing has happened yet.

But I have heard sooooooooooo many success stories w/ IF!

Funny part is.........those who took a long time getting pregnant......anywhere from 2-5 years........never went to get tested.......just kept trying and eventually, it happened....naturally!

I love hearing stories like this! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Infertility Success Stories

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2006. I decided to go off of BCP (I had been on them for almost 10 years) so that we could TTC. I got one period like clockwork 30 days later...and then never got another one. I knew something was up.

It was right around the time I was starting to think something was wrong that I started sprouting dark hairs on my chin. At first it was just a few--I tweezed them. Then there were 10. Then 20. It got worse and worse. Still no AF.

When I was diagnosed, I started doing my research--and thought that I was doomed never to have kids. I got myself into a really dark place.

After we moved to NC, we sought out the help of an RE. After my exam, she sat down with me and said, "You don't ovulate on your own. But if you're ready, I'll have you pregnant within 3 months". Chat Icon I was not prepared for that.

She started me on Metformin. This alone did not make me ovulate, even though I gave it 2 months. The 3rd month, she put me on 100mg of Clomid. Our timing was completely off--it was a lot more pressure than my DH could handle. I wasn't expecting that and I was REALLY upset about it. I couldn't believe that I had done injections, multiple early-morning sonos before work, and pills with wicked side effects...and he couldn't do the one thing that he needed to do.

We talked about it, and we were eventually able to BD with no pressure because in our minds, we had missed our window and it was too late.

So, you can imagine my surprise when I tested at 13 dpo and got my BFP! I was in total shock.

I couldn't believe that it happened so easily for us, once we found our "magic bullet". I wish you all a short journey to the other side!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Infertility Success Stories

I am blessed with 2 success stories that I hope can be an inspiration to all of you strong women on this board...It is the success stories that I myself heard that came me the perserverance to carry on month after month Chat Icon

After going off BCP after being on it since my teens my AF's were extremely irregular...Deep down I always knew that I would have trouble conceiving, just something in my gut told me since a young age, so maybe thats why when we did, it did not come as a big suprise...

After we were trying for 2 years, I started seeing an OBGYN ( on the reccomendation of a friend) that claimed to specialize in IF...He immediately put me on Clomid and timed BD...Naive as I was I took it, completely unmonitored and without a diagnosis for 7 MONTHS Chat Icon...Finally he referred me to RSOFNY who did an HSG ( clear), an SA ( DH has a child from a previous relationship, so we knew he was ok), and was diagnosed with mild PCOS....We did 3 Clomid/IUI cycles and were about to start IVF...At the day I went in for my injection class after IUI # 3, the nurse "had a good feeling" and asked me to POAS ...I said Chat Icon and did it .....It was POSITIVE Chat Icon !!!!! And my DS was born 9 months later Chat Icon

We waited until my DS was almost 2 and began again...This time IUI's didnt work ( 5 cycles) and we decided to do IVF...First cycle we got a BFP, but turned out chemical ....

Next cycle we had such great fertilization and quality due to a change in meds (added Lupron intsead of BCP's)...On Dr's reccomendation, put 1 embie back
( due to fear of OHSS) and lo and behold, my DD was conceived Chat Icon We have 3 frosties also ...

The only thing I can say, for me , going at it month in month out is what worked...We never took a break...I saw every month as a new challenge and I was determined to "win" - I vowed to not let IF beat me ...And we were also open to adoption, had it not happened the way it did..I always had a plan "B" and I never felt consumed because of that, because to me, it was my only little bit of "control" I had over it...

I Chat Icon for all you girls daily...Try to keep your chins held high....There is no-one more deserving than you and you will all beat IF, I just know it Chat Icon

Re: Infertility Success Stories

I was Rxed with PCOS while in college (1992) So I always knew that it would be hard for me to have a child.

After being married for 4 years and just winging it, I went to a RE in order to start IF treatments. I did 4 IUIs (insurance made us before IVF) All 4 IUIs were negative. In July 2006 we did our first round of IVF and I got pregnant with a singleton! However, I miscarried around 10 weeks.

The in January 2007, we did a second round of IVF. We implanted 5 embryos (4 grade A, 1 grade B) and I got pregnant with twins! Chat Icon Chat Icon

IF is a hard and cruel journey. It tests your self esteem, your marriage, and your womanhood. However, you just have to do your best to kick IF in the azz!

I wish you all luck! May your journey be much shorter then mine! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Infertility Success Stories

I just can't thank you all enough for taking the time to share your stories. Although I may not have the same issues it gives me hope and strength to know you have overcome IF. And although I am trying for #2 and have recurrent losses not infertility per say I take great comfort in knowing it happens even when you feel like it never will. When you feel like you just can't take one more loss or failed attempt this is proof it works. Thank you and please keep sharing. I think this will really help this board.

Re: Infertility Success Stories

With DD, who is now 2 1/2, it took us about 10 months to conceive. The first 8 months we went at it the "old fashioned way"- but my cycles were all over the place and I had a few annovulatory cycles. I went to my OB/GYN and she put me on 50 mg of clomid... luckily with timed BD on our 2nd cycle we got the BFP that was DD...

Fast forward 14 months- we figured we'd TTC for number 2. Since I never went back on birth control after I had DD, I went right to the doc and told her I wanted to be put back on clomid- figuring that it was my magic bullet and I would be pregnant within one or two months. My OB/GYN gave me 3 months and if it didn't work, I'd have to go in for a specialist. The 3 months didn't work and we were moving, I decided I was all hating on my OB/GYN anyway so I left it alone.

When we moved back to LI from NJ I saw an OB by my house who supposedly specialized in mild fertility issues.... she did one IUI w/o meds and one IUI with clomid. She did basic testing- FSH and a SA- never gave me any reason why I was having issues and both IUIs failed. She wanted me to do another IUI w/ clomid and a trigger- but I started hating on her, too.

Around that time- we were about a year in TTC #2 and I was getting really frustrated- I came on this board and saw Dr. Braverman's name. I figured- what the heck- let me give him a call.

I saw him- and was a little overwhelmed- was diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin... I also am homoMTHFR so he put me on Metanx and baby asprin- and wanted me to go on lovenox- but for the first IUI w/ trigger I just didn't want to go with the lovenox- and he said we can try w/o since my homocystein levels were ok. Of course, IUI #1 w/ Braverman failed, probably b/c I was too stubborn w/ the lovenox.

to be perfect, we added lovenox to IUI #2 with braverman. I really expected this to fail too- the Monday before my Beta I had light pink then dark brown spotting- i figured I was out again- but Dr. B called and said it was positive! I was totally shocked.

I'm only 7 weeks right now- and still on the lovenox (and metformin, baby asprin, and metanx) but all is good and we saw the heartbeat two weeks in a row so far....

this is such a long, crazy, emotionally insane journey- so I hope this story helps. I had so many moments where I thought DD was going to be an only child. I had actually told myself after the 2nd IUI w/ braverman that we would take a break- I just couldn't think about fertility anymore... funny how it all worked out.

Re: Infertility Success Stories

DH & I never thought that we would have trouble TTC but after 1 year of trying on our own with never getting pregnant, I knew we had to seek other help. DH was so hesitant in the beginning swearing we were just "trying too hard" I finally convinced him we needed to just see.

My OB suggested that DH go to a IF urologist before moving too fast. She said the majority of the time when the woman shows no signs of difficulty, it is a male problem. We made our first consult with Dr. Mellinger in April 2008 for DH to get some blood drawn. Immediately we were sent for a SA & that uncovered our worst fear. DH had very low morphology & low motility. Dr Mellinger ordered a scrotal sonogram & also morning bloodwork to see if there were any blockages. It was determined that DH had a varicosele vein but it was not causing any blocking but his extensive bloodwork showed that he had very low testosterone. Dr Mellinger prescribed Clomid for DH to increase his testosterone & also to increase his counts, so that the morphology & motility problem could be side tracked for some time. After spending about 1 month under his care, he informed us that we needed to see the help of a RE & that we would only get pregnant via IVF. You can imagine how hard this was for both of us to hear.

I immediately called NSUH & made a consult with Dr. Rosenfeld. We met with him Memorial Day weekend & he immediately told us, after he looked over my records & did an exam, that we will solely MF Infertility. We discussed all the options we had, all the way down the IVF. Dr Rosenfeld put me on Clomid also & decided that we would attempt an IUI but he prepared us for it not working.

I had my first IUI back in June & of course it did not work. I was so upset bc I thought for sure that getting the sperm to where they had to be, would do the trick. While I was on Clomid & my first round of IUI's, I developed a cyst & had to take a month off. I was so upset but knew it was for the best. We did another IUI & clomid in August & yet again, it didn't work. At that point, Dr Hershlag told me it would be best if we did a IVF consult bc the post-wash numbers DH was getting on his sample was below the minimum they like to see.

I came home & cried bc I never thought I would have to go through all this to get pregnant. I also knew how resistant DH was on going too fast. However I was shocked that DH was onboard & told me to make the consult. So we met with Dr Scholl on September 25th & he approved us immediately for the IVF program. We were informed since we were solely MF, we would ICSI with the IVF to ensure a better fertilzation rate. Now we had to figure out the $$ since we had no IVF insurance coverage. At the time, NSUH was participating in the NYS Grant program but all money was on hold. DH & I decided to proceed with the IVF paying out of pocket, bc the longer we waited, the longer we prolonged the inevitable. I was told to call them as soon as I received my period & then we would be given our protocol. In the meantime, 1 week before I got AF, I got the best call in the world, Our NYS Grant was approved & we were set to go! What a sigh of relief!

So I called & scheduled my schedule on October 10th! I was immediately informed I would start Lupron & then my meds would include Bravelle & Menopur. I was so nervous for the first injection but I really surprised myself with just doing it without troubles. The next couple of weeks were tough with all the monitoring & every shot, but I knew it was the only way! I was progressing nicely & responding to all the medication. I had my ER on 12/5 in which they retrieved 17 eggs. I was thrilled but now the waiting began.

With all the meds I was on, I ended up developing a slight case of OHSS, but fortunately it never turned severe. I received the phone call on 12/6 that out of the 17 eggs, only 7 fertilized! I was devastated but kept telling myself that I only needed 1. Dr Scholl decided it was best to do a 5 day transfer just to make sure the OHSS went down. So on 12/10 I went to NSUH for them to implant 2 excellent grade embies. DH & I were so nervous bc we didn't know how we would handle it if it didn't work out.

The next 2 weeks were so difficult & I never had one symptom so I thought for sure that it didn't take. On December 17th, 8dp5dt, I just had to take a test bc I knew i had my beta on 12/22! Much to my surprise, within 1 minute of POAS, I see "PREGNANT!" DH & I were over the moon but we knew that we could not get too excited until we had beta numbers. The next couple of weeks were a whirlwind. When I went for my beta, they called me to tell me that my number was 822, which was extremely high. I had my first ultrasound on 12/29 & we saw 2 sacs!!!! Again my beta was taken & it went to 5319! DH & I were so shocked that I was pregnant with twins.

Over the next couple of weeks, we found out that one of the twins was just not developing to the standards they liked. I had many sonograms done to monitor but finally at 9w I was released by NSUH but it was determined that we only had 1 baby. Still DH & I were so happy. We knew this was the best thing for us & we were blessed. Needless to say, I am 23w pregnant with our little Chat Icon due 8/26

I wish all you ladies all the luck in the world Chat Icon Remember when the tough times get to you, keep the chin up & know there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Re: Infertility Success Stories

I'm a recent grad so you all probably know my story, but here it is anyway -

I went on the pill when I was 16 and had no problems. In 2002ish I switched to the patch and my body went crazy. I stopped all birth control and eventually was diagnosed with mild PCOS in 2003. My only "symptoms" were lack of periods and cystic ovaries. I went back on the pill since we weren't TTC yet, but I knew we would have issues once we started.

I went off the pill on my 30 birthday, in April of 2007. I got one period on my own and then they stopped. I made an appointment with Dr. Flisser at RMA and we decided to start really treating in July 2007. The original plan was a few rounds of Clomid with IUI and then move on from there, since DH had no issues. I did not respond at all to Clomid (except I did get REALLY sick). So after 100mg and 150mg, we moved onto injectibles. My first round I overstimulated and had 9 mature follies, so my cycle was cancelled. We did a few more injectible/IUI cycles as Dr. Flisser was able to manipulate the dosage perfectly for me to make between 2-4 follies each time. Unfortunately, they were all BFNs.

At this point, I knew our only chance was IVF. However, I was totally freaked out over IVF and resisted it for a long time. We took a very long break, during which I started to ovulate on my own (albeit irregularly and long cycles), but still BFNs every cycle.

In February of this year, we finally decided it was time to try IVF. I was on BCP, Lupron, and Gonal-F. At my retrieval they got 18 eggs, 15 of which fertilized. On day five, we transferred two Stage 4 Grade AA embies and two more were frozen. I am now 6 weeks pregnant with twins and we heard their heartbeats for the first time yesterday.

I wish there was no need for this board but I am so thankful that it was here when I needed it. I pray that you all graduate soon. Chat Icon

Re: Infertility Success Stories

I'm so proud to be part of this thread! The IF board has a special place in my heart and I visit daily looking for positive news. The support of everyone here is unlike anything else. I like to try to be supportive without being intrusive. Anyway, I'm another grad and here is a quick version of my story:

DH and I got PG on our first try and had a m/c at almost 6 weeks. After a year of trying on our own we were at the end of our rope! We had tried everything! We started with the RE, had the SA and HSG and all was clear. All bloodwork came back fine and we were unexplained IF. The first cycle of clomid/IUI didn't work. The next cycle (2nd after HSG) was clomid/trigger/b2b IUIs (and I added Omega 369) worked! I believe that Omegas are wonderful and can do so much. My DD is now 10 1/2 months old!

12/09-ETA: In Aug. '09 we began trying on our own for a second child. We have been blessed that it worked for us on the first try, no RE, no help of any sort! We are expecting our DC #2 in May so the kids will be 23 months apart.

I have many friends, IRL and online at another site, who are IF success stories. May you all be blessed with the love of a LO...they are worth it all. I would do it all again and more in a heartbeat. Chat Icon

Re: Infertility Success Stories

I was a secondary infertility gal. When I got pregnant with DD it was as easy as pie. Went off the pill, got pregnant our first month trying, miscarried at 7.5 weeks and then got pregnant again with my DD one week later. SO I just assumed I would have no problems with #2. WRONG!!

I went off the pill in January 07. Started trying actively in March. Started charting and the CBEFM in June. By the time October rolled around I knew something was wrong and consulted with an RE.

During testing she found the following issues: Slightly elevated thyroid, an endometrioma on my ovary indicating a strong possiblity of endometriosis, and hostile CM.

We tried timed intercourse with monitoring for a few months. Then we tried Clomid, which totally backfired and caused me NOT to ovulate for the first time in my life. After that, we tried, I believe 2 cycles of back to back IUI's with no medication. Then we moved on to medicated IUI's with follistim and ovidrel, for 4 cycles.

After that my RE recommended we could either do surgery to determine if the problem really was endometriosis, clear it out and then start trying again with IUI's, or go straight to IVF. I was done waiting, and done spending so much money on each IUI cycle. And what if it wasn't endometriosis? I decided to move straight to IVF.

I started on BCP's for about 10 days. Then moved into lupron injections morning and night for another 10 days or so, and then we started a regimen of follistim and menopur for about 14 days before retrieval.

We retrieved 9 eggs. 2 were immature. Of the 7 remaining, 5 successfully fertilized.

We did a 3 day transfer, and put back 2 embryos. 8 days later I got my BFP. And now, I'm 27 weeks pregnant with a singleton Chat Icon

Re: Infertility Success Stories

I didn't have AF for years during my late 20s. I thought it was great! I was stupid. As I got engaged I began to get real sick. Doctors ran every test known to mankind. I was first diagnosed with PCOS, but it didn't fit. I always had regular AF through my teens and early 20s.

I got more sick. After over a year, they found my tumor. It was pressing against my pituitary gland (Master hormone gland) and other things inside my head.

They said I didn't have much of a shot at getting PG. And if I did get PG, I would more than likely lose the baby because my hormones were so far out of whack. My body was fighting itself. Surgery was out of the question, because I would have NO shot at having a baby. We went with chemo and my very small shot at getting PG.

After 4 months of chemo, I ovulated for the first time in YEARS. Doctor told us to go for it because they shrank the tumor enough to try for a baby. A few months later I was PG and they imemdiately stopped chemo.

I was able to maintain my PG for 38 weeks. I gave birth to a whopping 11 pound 8 ounce boy. Doctors didn't think I'd ever get PG or maintain a PG. But they never thought they'd ever see a baby that large born early either. I like to defy the odds. Chat Icon

My tumor increased throughout PG, but suddenly after 6 months pp, it disappeared. Again, doctors don't know what to say. We may try for #2 down the road. Who knows?

I wish you all the best of luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Infertility Success Stories

Great idea for a thread.

I am going to paste the "essential" parts my story from my pregnancy announcement so I can make sure I don't leave anything out.

We became patients of Dr. Rosenfeld at NSUH after I was diagnosed with cervical stenosis during a failed attempt at an HSG. After having a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, D and C and tubal lavage with Dr. R., we were ready to start the IUI process as my cervix was still too stenotic to conceive naturally.

The first IUI was unsuccessful. The second IUI was successful but ended soon after in a chemical pregnancy. It su ck ed but we made peace with it our way feeling it was G-d’s will. We skipped a cycle to make sure all of the PG hormones were out of my system.

Our third IUI was also successful, however the HCG levels stopped doubling. I was put on progesterone suppositories in the event of a turn around, but it was futile. I miscarried at a little over 6 weeks. I said to the doctor, I don't know if I can do this anymore and he looked at me and said "If you don't do this, you won't have kids." Hmm harsh, but true and I got back on the saddle. It knocked sense into me.

IUI #4 was not a success.

On to IUI cycle # 5. I am rarely an early tester, but I tested at 10DPO and saw a faint line, tested again the next day again with FRER and a digital. Sure enough, I was PG. Now I am 3 for 5 unmedicated IUI’s. Just as I was excited, I was fearful and until bloodwork was done, it wasn’t real. As a very wise LIFer told me – miscarriage changes you forever (and it does.) This time, the HCG and progesterone numbers were much higher to begin with and were significantly higher than in the first 2 pregnancies at the same point in time. I had 4 Betas in total and then Doctor stopped testing - I was officially pregnant.

On January 9th, DH and I saw the flutter of a heartbeat for the very first time. Not only were we finally looking at this amazing creation after so many months of disappointment, but it was also my late father’s birthday and we always planned that our first child would be named to honor him.

We were held slightly longer as patients based on our experiences and my age. Two and a half weeks later, we went back for one more sono to assure viability and we were released back to my OB/GYN practice. Dr. Rosenfeld shook DH’s hand, gave me a hug and a kiss and I asked him not to retire until we have our second child. He said he wasn’t going anywhere and as long as I brought cookies he would stick around. (I had brought him, the nurses and office staff holiday cookies at Christmas time).

I know my story is not a typical one or one that would be considered on the high end of the IF spectrum, but since I was treated by an RE and Abby's conception was not "natural," it was very hard on us that we couldn't conceive without assistance. I hope this serves as some sort of inspiration for a person with similar issues.

Re: Infertility Success Stories

Shortly after we got married, DH and I decided that we wanted to try for a baby. In September of 2004 I stopped BC and we started to officially try in December 2004. After a few months of no success I started to feel that something was wrong. I talked to my Obgyn who wouldn't do anything until we tried for a full year. So, I had DH talk to his doctor and get a recommendation for a urologist. DH was sent for a SA and we discovered that he had low count.

We started with our RE in May 2006. My bloodwork came back normal and I ovulated on my own so our protocol was unmedicated IUI's. The first 2 were BFN. Our 3rd IUI resulted in an ectopic pregnancy. We were so devastated to finally be pregnant and have it not be viable. I received 2 shots of methotrexate to dissolve the pregnancy. After this we had to wait 3 cycles before we could try again. In the meantime I had an HSG and more bloodwork and it was discovered that I had a very slight case of PCOS and a blocked tube. My RE put me on metformin, clomid and a baby aspirin and we did 3 more IUI's all resulting in BFN's. We knew that our only chance now was IVF.

Luckily my husband switched jobs and his new insurance covered IVF. We started our 1st IVF cycle in May 2007. I was on BC, then Lupron and then Bravelle. We had our retrieval on July 4th and did a 5dt on July 9th. We put 2 embies back and our DD just turned 1 last month.

We have decided that we want to try for our 2nd DC and made my consult appointment with the RE for June 1st.

I hope my story helps you in your daily fight against IF. I wish all of you luck and babydust Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Infertility Success Stories

I know I don't belong on this board....but if it's helpful....

My very good friend Courtney was pregnant last year with a little baby girl named Grace. My friend Courtney lost her baby girl due to spina bifida at 5 months, there was no hope for her, she was leaking fluid into her brain, Courtney made sure she couldn't hold onto her for full term. After her D&C (although at 5 months they didn't call it a D&C), she was beyond devastated but got right back into the saddle the second she got the green light. Her & DH tried for about a year (maybe a little longer) naturally but nothing was working. The doctors said she had a partially blocked right tube, but not fully blocked and slight endo....but nothing that was to blame. So she had unexplained infertility. She did the whole clomid thing, everything.

About two months ago she went for her first IUI......I don't know how it FULLY works but I know only two took (I think I've said that right). So she was very nervous of course and prepared for the worst. I get a phone call about 3 weeks ago...that she is pregnant.....WITH TWINS!!! She went today and saw two flickering heartbeats.

So while I don't personally understand what you all are going through, I hope and pray that each and every one of you get your chance.......I believe you will.

Re: Infertility Success Stories

I was married in June 2005 and we started TTC in August. i got PG the 1st month only to have a miscarriage. We tried again and got PG after I took some healing time in December and lost that pregnancy too. We started to think there might be an issue and I started researching multiple miscarriages.

A few months later I got pregnant again and again lost the pregnancy but my hcg would not go down. I needed to get methotrexate. During this time I was tested for a variety of issues including infection and immune disorders.

It was discovered I did have an infection as well as MTHFR and a variety of clotting factors. I also had high natural killer cells. I became pregnant again and of course my numbers were not going up as they should. I went away to visit my sister and while there I had excrutiating pain. I flew home like that barely able to walk through the airport and immediately went to the hospital. I had a tubal pregnancy and needed emergency surgery in which I lost my right tube.

We decided to try naturally for 3 months and then move on to IVF to bypass my tubes totally as we started to think what we thought were m/c were really tubals. e were successful on our first try and now have healthy 5 month old twin boys. My pregnancy was basically issue free until I got preeclampsia at 32 weeks and delivered at 35.4 weeks.

Best of luck to everyone-I hope this helps. If anyone has questions about m/c or tubals I am here to helpChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Infertility Success Stories

When I was a teenager, I always had very irregular periods. The solution? Put me on the pill. I didn't think about it again for years.
I got married in May of 2006. In August of 2006 I decided I had enough of the pill. We had decided we were going to TTC about a year after getting married, but took a "whatever happens, happens" attitude. After coming off the pill I started charting - I was getting temp rises, and my period was coming regularly. I was thrilled! Then, my cycles started getting longer and longer. My temps were very erratic. Then I didn't get my period. After 4 months, I went to see my gyno, who told me it was normal to go so long, and to wait another 6 weeks or so. Stupid me believed her and waited. And waited. In June 2007 I decided to go to a new doctor. I had been off the pill for nearly a year, hadn't had my period in months, spent $$ on pregnancy tests, and wasn't pregnany. As soon as I told my new dr. what was going on, she suspected PCOS. She did the testing, and PCOS was confirmed. She put me on metformin and said to give it 3 months to see if it would get me to start ovulating. I increased the dosage at the 2 month mark, but nothing happened. When I went back in Sept. she said the next step would be clomid, but that I should go to an RE for that, so she referred me to one. I was SO devestated that I would need to go to a specialist to help me get pregnant.
So off to the RE I went. The put me on provera, I got cycle day 3 testing, and started off on 50mg clomid with trigger/timed intercourse. First round of 50mg did nothing, so I got another round of 50mg. I got one good follie, but BFN.
Next cycle, the dosage was upped to 100mg with TI, another BFN.
At this point I told my RE I wanted to be more aggressive. We decided to try clomid/trigger with IUI the next cycle. I went for an HSG, no blockages. My dosage of clomid was upped to 150mg. I produced 4 good follies... and BFP!! This was in Feb. 2008. I couldn't believe the first IUI worked! Then I started bleeding. At 6w3d I miscarried. It was one of the hardest things i have ever gone through.

I had to wait another cycle to try again. I thought I would need provera to bring on my period, but I actually ovulated on my own and got my period 4 weeks after the miscarriage. On to the next round. I had a giant cyst, and we couldn't start clomid. I was so upset. Fortunately, the cyst went away and we could start. They wanted me to do the same regimen as last time since it worked - 150mg clomid + trigger + IUI. This time I produced 3 good follies.

At 9 dpiui I decided to test - way too early, I knew it. It was BFN. I pulled it out of the garbage a few minutes later, and there was a faint, faint line. I decided it had to be an evap line. I tested again at 12 dpiui, and I couldn't believe my eyes - BFP - it came up right away!! I ran to show DH the pee stick, I don't think he believed it was real. Each day after that the line got darker. I went for my beta on May 9, 2008 - DH's bday. Beta was 150... that was a friday. On monday it was 697. Great numbers!! When I went for my first sono, we found out it was twins. DH was so excited, I warned him about vanishing twin syndrome... but both survived, and I delivered Madelyn and Jonah and December 30, 2008.

I should also mention - I asked for the recurrent miscarriage testing after the m/c. They told me that they usually don't do it until after 2 or 3 miscarriages, but I said I don't want to wait until I miscarry another time, I want to know if there is an issue now. My RE agreed, and it was a good thing I insisted. It turned out I had a protein S deficiency - which is a clotting issue. I was on lovenox the whole pregancy.

Re: Infertility Success Stories

I'll make mine short --

M/C twins at 38 years of age.

Tried for over a year, nothing. Went to East Coast - FSH 12. 1 IUI, pointless.

Switched to SIRM (Dr Batzofin) - DH's morphology low, I was found to have MTHFR and Factor V Leitin.

1st IVF - 4 eggs, 3 fertilized, 2 transferred, nada.

2nd IVF - 4 eggs, 3 fertilized, 3 transferred, 1 DD born June 10, 2007 by scheduled c/s.
Mom was 40 years old by then. On lovenox and then heparin throughout pregnancy.

Along with IVF I did all of the following
- acupuncture (Andrea Huggler for the successful IVF)
- herbs
- amma massage
- guided imagery
- yoga
and other stuff, can't remember what else.

We may try for no. 2, even tho I am 42 now. It would TRULY be a "miracle" if it worked. Well a miracle inspired by science!!
