Insensitive Comments

When someone makes a very insensitive comment to you (which IS hurtful) BUT you are not very close to them, what do you do? Call them out? Let it slide? or somethign else all together?

Re: Insensitive Comments

If it was intentional, I would say something. Regardless of how well I knew them.

If they said it not realizing it was insensitive, I would let it slide if I didn't know them well.

If it happened again though, we would have words.

Re: Insensitive Comments

It depends on if I feel the comment was meant to be hurtful, or just accidently came out that way...

It would really depend on the comment that was sad, and who said it.

Re: Insensitive Comments

Usually, I will just let it slide, and assume that it wasn't intentional, and just plain stupidity or ignorance.

I wouldn't let it slide. I'm really bad at letting people slide when they say dumb things.

Deb I am sorry someone hurt you.
Honestly - the way I look at it. Is that is bothering you enough that you are asking us what to do and it is not rolling off your shoulders, then something should be said to this person.
But then you have to look at the person that said it and see if it worth your breath.

I don't think I could let that slide, although I guess it depends on who said it. I'm not sure what I would do about it though.

That's just mean! I'm sorry that someone did that to you.

Re: Insensitive Comments

Honestly - my take on this - is to F THEM. Since you are not that close to them - F THEM. You seem to have an AMAZING support system between your DH and your family -- who needs to even be bothered with someone else's stupidity. You have to focus your energy on your new son and on getting better.

I am sorry that people are so hurtful and inconsiderate though.Chat Icon

Re: Insensitive Comments

I am so sorry that someone hurt you. You certainly have enough on your hands to deal with right now and other people's stupidity shouldnt be on that list.

As far as I am concerned, I am usually taken back by such things and only in hindsight, when it is too late, do I think of clever retorts.

Wow - about your diagnosis? Chat Icon Normally I would say it depends on the comment and who said it. I'm assuming it's someone in your life (not on LIF)...if it was in some twisted way meant as a joke, I might be able to let it slide, but if it was just plain insensitive, you should say something.

I'm so sorry Deb. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
