Is this employer sponsored? You could be getting a special rate as a full-time employee and if you are on leave they "might" suspend the policy.
I'd call central administration, your payroll dept tomorrow.
And call the actual insurance company with your policy number.

Re: INsurance question for mom on unpaid maternity leave
I'm on an unpaid leave right now. For me, the way it works is that my employer will continue to pay their portion of my health benefits, and I am responsible for the portion that normally comes out of my check. I send a check to the benefits person at my job and she takes care of it.
Contact your HR/payroll person ASAP. you don't want to fool around with this.

Call up your job and ask them. They may have already paid the premium for you and were planning on deducting it from your first check when you return. If they didn't, then have them do so and send them a check for the premium to reimburse them.

Re: INsurance question for mom on unpaid maternity leave
I didnt take any time unpaid as I had tons of vacation saved up to use. But I was told by my HR that if I was doing unpaid I would have to arrange to send in payment monthly...I would call your union rep or someone to check.

This is how my company worked as well if i had been covered under their policy.

Re: INsurance question for mom on unpaid maternity leave
My company paid for it while I was out and now that I'm back they're taking it out of my check. They're splitting it across 2 checks for me.
