I have FMed people who I didn't necessarily know to ask a question ab8out somehting they posted, o rt let them kno wI agreed wth someting they posted, or to wish them well if something was going on in their life. And i've made some great friends because of it.

Me too...and i have even FMed people that i normally didnt' see eye to eye with. We arent' "friends" but it certainly has made posting a lot nicer

I've Fmed people becuse something struck me like, I likd a response they had or I felt we had something in common, etc. About obnoxious people, I agree with Red, yu would not believe how much of the time it's read completely wrong. 90% of the time if I think someone's being obnoxious or sarcastic or something, and I FM them and sat "hey w...t..ff" they are like "no, I totally didn't mean it that way." I think FMing people is great because you get to know a broader range of the person. When posting, sometimes only one side of the personality comes out,or certian interests are highlighted, etc. LIW has broken a lot of stereotypes for me in the wya I see people, because I "meet" a lot of people online that I woudln't have met in 'real life', and so now I know that not everyone who is into this is stupid, or just because you disagree with this and this, dons't mean you don't agree on this and that, etc. If that makes any sense.

No, I dont FM people who are interesting, Mostly because I have a lot of friends I dont devote enough time to as is, a husband etc and that would require way too much time , I have extablished friendships other ways on LIF that I am happy with, but I wouldnt go out of my way to make more, which FM's to someone might signal to them, because I would rather find a real life interesting person...LOL...Sorry if that sounded mean. I just mean I wouldnt go out of my way after an interesting post to chat, I have no time for that, I barely have time to get my fill of post reading in..LOL

Me too...I have been terrible about keeping up with old friends from HS and college, so I would feel bad seeking to make new friends, cyber or otherwise, especially since I have friends who are long distance and we communicate by email.
Plus I would feel too shy, usually. Sometimes I have taken the chance but it's nerve wracking for me.

And just because you disagree on a topic or even MANY topics doesn't mean you can't get to know the person. I know i have disagreed with someone on a bunch of threads...And she still will FM me (even in the middle of a disagreement) something funny...
LOLOLOL....and i am sure most people think we dislike each other
