Interviewing Pediatricians

So I was reading an article that talked about how you should interview pediatricians at about 6 months.

Did anyone here "interview" a pediatrician? I think I would feel weird walking into an office pregnant and asking them questions.

Not to mention I wouldn't even know what questions to ask.

No idea where to even start in the search for a doctor for DD.

We went when I was 8 months pregnant. We knew a lot of people who used this pedi and we trusted them. I just wanted to meet them and see their demeanor etc.

We asked:
Hours and availability (evening and weekends)
Is there always a dr on call 24/7 that is reachable
What are your thoughts on alternating or delaying vaccines
Thoughts on breastfed ding vs formula (some drs are very pro bf and can make to feel guilty if you ff, etc)

I would star by asking neighbors, family friends, etc or even lif for a pedi in your area

I hate calling it an interview Bc really it's just a meet and greet. I went to two that my friends and family used. They do it all the time and they know the schpeal to give you that answers all our questions. For me it was more picking who's personality meshed with mine. I wouldn't go crazy. Pick a couple by word of mouth then go with your gut

I did not interview them. I had asked our friends who they used, heard their stories, etc and picked from there. All along I knew i didn't want one of them most used. We are very happy with ours!

We went at around 8.5 months pregnant. I didn't really need to ask questions since the dr was used to doing these kinds of visits. He gave us all the info on the office - hours, after hours, emergency line, vaccination schedules, etc. And he told me when to call for the first appt after the baby was born. It's very normal to visit the ped before the baby is born, so don't feel weird about it!

I didn't "interview"
I got recommendations and when I'm called the practice to see if they were taking new patients they invited me in for a meet and greet. The doctor was so nice, she went over everything I'd possibly need to know...

I never did. IMO you will never really know if you like them until you are using them. I just went with a rec.

Re: Interviewing Pediatricians

I asked here and got the BEST rec!!!

I actually started with one ped -- who my ob/gyn recommended and, after some time, I wasn't that happy.

So, I came here (on parenting) and asked and found someone I am head over heels for!!

I should have just come here from the beginning! Chat Icon

Thanks. My parents have tons of Dr friends though so I think I will start there. MY GP is my dad's close friend and has actually made house calls for me and my husband. They don't have any friends who are pediatricians though. But I am going to ask my GP for some recs.

I asked here and a facebook group I belong to and then crossed referenced it with my insurance and location. Then went to meet the two most recommended doctors. I thought it would be weird to interview doctors too but both practices I visited had a specific time they do consultations with potentially new patients, so after talking with the receptionist it wasn't awkward or anything. I had a bunch of questions, but it seemed like they've done this so many times, they answered all the questions we had before we even asked them.
