When interviewing Pediatricians...

How do you handle interviewing them if there are multiple doctors in one practice? Do you just make an appointment with one of them, or make several appointments with many of the doctors? If you're meeting with more than one doctor, do you have to go back more than once to do that?

Re: When interviewing Pediatricians...

Good question (this is something I am really behind on too Chat Icon )

There is only one practice in my area that takes my insurance. One specific doc was recommended to me, so I will ask for him when I call. If he's not taking new patients, then I will ask to see whoever in the practice is. I got my OB and my regular doc through this medical group, it has an excellent rep, and it's very close to my house. So I figure I've got to find someone in the practice.

Re: When interviewing Pediatricians...

I just came back from interviewing mine.

I interviewed the main doctor I would like to treat my children. I got his name from many BTDT mommy recommendation.

I was impressed that all of the doctors in the practice trained at the top children's hospitals in the country, Philadelphia and Boston. They all went to med school in the US.

Some other things to ask about:

Hours? Days? Holidays?

Separate waiting room for sick vs. well visits?

Nurse practioners?

Average age of the doctors- some older doctors believe in more regimental practices and may not subscribe to a flexible immunization schedule etc.

What lab they deal with? Where will they send you for x-rays, MRI's etc or do they have it on site?

Do they have hours of the day when they take phone calls?

There's more but I can't think of them now.
