Re: interviewing while pregnant!

Yes - I am a success story!!!!!!

I had my first round interview for a tenure track college teaching position when I was 20 weeks pregnant (this was a few years ago in December) - I didnt tell them I was pregnant. A few days later I found out that I had a campus visit (I was one of three finalists) scheduled for February. I was going to be 7 months pregnant at the campus visit. The night before the campus visit a number of people in the dept took me out to dinner and I told them I was pregnant (I figured it was obvious, but some of them didnt realize). I explained that I was due in early May and would be ready to teach in late August, when the semester started. It was never an issue.

Legally, they cannot discriminate against a pregnant woman - but in my case, I wouldnt have been given maternity leave even if I wanted it - I had to be an employee of at least a year before I qualified for it. But I was clear about being ready to start the job in the fall and they hired me.

Good luck!!!!!!

I haven't experienced this, but I am sure it will be fine if you tell them you will be available at the start of the year.
If you are what they are looking for, they won't pass you up.

I don't have any success stories, but I did interview while pregnant and don't let it stop you. Dress for success, go positive and confident, and like others said if you have what they want, they won't pass you.

Re: interviewing while pregnant!

yes - 9 months pregnant and in a school. They were all very polite and didn't say a thing. I broke it and said: let me clear the elephant in the room out of the way. I'm 9 months pregnant, due at the end of June (I was the beginning of July, but bumped it up - I went early anyway) I have another child in day care - I have a spot for this child in day care set up already.

I got the job verbally before DS was born, but went to meet with the superintendent afterwards. I ended up turning that job down b/c it was PT and I got a FT job where I had just finished a leave replacement (while preggo).

Everyone was really friendly about it.

My friend was on the hiring committee and a pregnant woman was the top contender. The committee said it didn't matter if she had the baby her first year there or four years later, they wanted to hire the best person.

I think schools tend to be a bit more sympathetic in this matter - plus the fact that you are not starting right away, makes it easier to forget about the pregnancy.
