Iodine for your animals
with the talk of the massive radiation situation in Japan, I am starting to become increasingly concerned about the fact that if there was a situation like that here, or if it reaches here..I must protect my two dogs.
I read online that you can give a dog up to 10 pounds 1/8 tablet for 8 days. I am going to call my vet to see what they recommend.
Too scary to even imagine, but I wanna be prepared.
Have any of you thought about this too or is just me and my crazy worrying?

Re: Iodine for your animals
I would not worry about radiation poising for yourself or your pets. The chance of the radiation from Japan reaching the US is highly unlikely. The people at greatest risk are those working in the power plant. Personally I do not worry about this...I am more concerned that I feed my dog the best quality food available and to ensure that he is well exercised.

If you live on the West coast, I could see your concern. But if you are here on the East coast with us, I would not worry. And I am a worrier, esp about things like that but I am not worried about it reaching here. I just saw a dr on tv today saying only the West coast could possibly deal with effects of a fallout but even that is highly unlikely.

Yes, as I watched CNN yesterday I became alerted to this fact that it will not reach here. Not going to worry. Thanks!

This. The woman at my nail salon was concerned about that too, but we were watching the news and they said that there was no way it would reach us or that the East Coast would be impacted at all.
If you are nervous though, I would recommend the disaster recovery site - I think it's called 72hours.org? Just some good tips on what to do.
