iPad vs Kindle Fire HD- for an older person
This would be a group gift for a grandparent. Obviously the Kindle is the cheaper choice. This person would basically be using it to check email, play games, maybe surf the net and go on FB. They already got used to an iPad but I don't think a Kindle Fire is too difficult to learn on. Is there any reason to justify the additional cost of buying the iPad over the Kindle?

Kindle Fire is def easier to use and seems to be the right choice for what you are looking for. Right now amazon has it on sale...i believe.

I'm not that familiar with a kindle fire but if the grandkids have iPod touches & iPads, they can use Facetime to see them.

Barnes and Noble had/has fire sale on there Nook tablet. With the nook, you are not locked into the amazon store as nook uses the play store. Play store offers basically everything and amazom store has to maybe wait for a certain app if they even get it. and on top of that, they may be different prices.
the comparison between ipad and other tablets are the same. you buy an apple ipad for that experience otherwise they functions are the same.

My FIL is disabled, but wants to read the newspaper. He was better able to navigate the iPad (he was able to flip the pages and make the font larger just using his fingers). So, I would recommend the iPad or the Surface.
