Is 18 considered to be a child or minor?
I ask because we were invited to a wedding (DH's family) and I noticed they only put 2 which is myself and DH. DH asked if my son was invited and they said no children or minors. Don't get me wrong I understand the whole deal with wedding expenses etc, and know he can't drink, but he was hurt especially since he was told he would be invited.
He is 18. Does he still fall under the child or minor category? I'm really curious to know what everyone else thinks.
P.S. Just to add they now said he can come.

by legal age--18 is considered an adult
but perhaps when they said "no minors" they meant no one under the age of 21 -- for drinking purposes.

Tha makes sense. I actually thought about the drinking part..and me personally I would never let him drink. DH's family on other hand....WAY different story. LOL!

They should have clarified why he wasn't invited.
He can drive, fight for our country, vote for President.... he's not a minor, IMO.

haha -- maybe they have other guests with teenage/tween children and they did that "no children/minors" rule more for them than your son.

Re: Is 18 considered to be a child or minor?
They want an adult only event so nobody under 21 most likely.
It's also possible that people with children over the age of 21 won't be invited either (to be fair to the other couples with children under 21).

18 is considered an adult.
I wouldn't bring him if he wasn't on the original invite.

18 is an adult and he should have gotten his own invite, not added to his parents technically.
but that stinks that he wasnt even invited period.

Re: Is 18 considered to be a child or minor?
My wedding reception was "adult only" We didn't define an age range though- If someone was old enough to be invited IMO they got their own invite addressed to them and their guest.
Having said that, if I had a family member or friend or what have you that was 18 years old then yes, I would have invited them and a guest- seperate from their parents.
I wasn't concerened with underage drinking (I was assuming the bartenders at my catering hall would be responsible for IDing people who looked too young to be drinking) but more with the fact that I didn't want children at my wedding for personal reasons.
18, however, is not a child in my book.

They called DH and said he could go - so he is. I'm guessing they received a lot of No's.

I dont get why they said he was going to be invited, then didnt invite him, and now he is invited I think that bothers me more than the whole minor/18 thing?
I hope your son's feelings werent too hurt and that he goes and has a blast

Re: Is 18 considered to be a child or minor?
depends... legally he's an adult... but he's not legal driking age
If I were to say 'no kids' for one of my parties, the only 'young one' would be my husband (he's 26)

Re: Is 18 considered to be a child or minor?
We had a similar situation at our wedding. On both sides of our family there are a lot of cousins and we had to draw the line somewhere, so the cousins were invited but not their kids. We just address the invites directly to the parents and out of 7 invites we got one call about their son coming. We felt bad so we said ok.

Re: Is 18 considered to be a child or minor?
Personally to me - I think that even though 18 is technically an adult 'legally', I still consider it a child. I don't feel like anybody is really an adult until they reach 21 (but that's just my own way of thinking).
When they said they were not inviting 'kids' or whatever, it was probably just referring to the fact that he's YOUR kid (maybe nothing to do with age). Like for my wedding a few months ago, I had invited some older couples that I've known my whole life, but I didn't invite their 'children' who are in their 20's (some even older than me. lol). It was only because i couldn't afford that many guests and I wasn't really as close to them as I was to their parents. Oh well.
Glad that they changed their mind though

Re: Is 18 considered to be a child or minor?
Well, the way that I interpret that is no children, as in people's kids, regardless of age. KWIM? So, even if he was like 25, he's still your child, and therefore not invited. Think about it, if they invited your son, they'd probably have to invite EVERYONE'S son and daughter, and to keep the peace they probably just x-ed everyone's kid off the list.
