Is 32oz of formula too much for 4mth old on food.

My son's schedule goes as follows:

breakfast is 3 tblsp of oatmeal about 6- 8oz of formula and 1/2 -full jar of veggie or fruit

lunch is 8oz bottle

late afternoon bottle of 80z

dinner is same as breakfast...

can't seem to get him lower than 32oz ...otherwise he won't sleep through the night. Peds wanted me to get him down to about 27 b/c he is over 19lbs...what do you think?

i think you should feed your son if he's hungry. Every kid is different and has different needs. your son will tell you when he wants to drink less than 32ozs.Chat Icon

My DS was always a big eater, still is!
He was 16lbs at 10 weeks!!! I think about 23lbs by 5 months. At one point he was up to 40oz of formula a day.

Your DS is ahead of where my DS was in regards to food as it wasnt until 5 months that we introduced fruits/veggies. But at that age I would say DS was having 4-8tbsp of cereal a day and six 6.5 oz bottles.

If you feel that he is eating too much maybe try giving him a fruit with lunch and lowering that bottle to 6 oz.

I never worried too much about my DSs food intake as he was always proportionate height and weight wise and my ped never made a point of saying anything (well except when he was on 40oz of formula)

I think that is fine. DD was eating that when she was that age too. I believe in feeding on demand at that age-if she's hungry she'll eat.

They don't over stuff themselves. It's not like us with girl scout cookies where you just keep eating because they taste so good.

When they transition to more solids you'll start to see the formula consumption decrease.

I agree. My son was a big baby at birth and has been a healthy eater ever since. If he's full, he'll let you know! Chat Icon
