There's been much discussion about each candidate's tax plan, the 250k figure and the view that it punishes those that make over 250k. However, when I look at their tax plans, Obama's plan does not really seem to"punish" those making over 250k - it has a nominal difference, unless you make over $603.403.

Shouldn't we be talking about $603,403 instead of $250,000?

Re: Is $603,403, per year rich ???

I also think these are significant but overlooked:

1. just because it says a # for a given income range, that is probably the average, not applied across the board. The amount of extra taxes will be more for someone with $600k than someone with $300k because it's based on tax brackets.

2. Even if there was an $8k tax difference between the 2 plans, it's not that McCain wants taxes to stay the same and Obama wants to increase them. It's that Obama wants taxes to essentially stay the same and McCain wants to decrease them.

Does anyone really think that given the bailout, the war, our country's economic crisis, etc that McCain will really be able to lower anyone's taxes?

We all know how that worked out...

My problem is not with the actual amount - it is with his characterization of those who earn above 250K and above as rich and the rift that has been created by such a characterization. I do not vote based on his "proposals" (although I studied them extensively so to imply that some of us do not understand them is presumptuous at best- I am quite familiar with Tax Law) because, to me, proposals are just that. I focus on ideas and the methodology behind his ideas. I believe in social programs but I do not believe in his plans or his ideas on the roles of the Federal Government. His ideas go against my interpretation of the constitution and the concept of Federalism.

The Washington Post was the first Google hit I got.

it's been posted on the boards a few times and it available from a few different sources, I believe.

My thought exactly. I think that there is a huge difference is feeding a line of sh!t to the masses and being realistic about what can happen. Now will the tax dollars be spent responsibly? That remains to be seen.....
