Does anyone really think that given the bailout, the war, our country's economic crisis, etc that McCain will really be able to lower anyone's taxes?
Obama won't do it either....
I'm not saying he would. I'm not saying anyone would. I'm just making the point that I think the talk about their tax plans is being blown out of proportion because there probably wont be a meaningful difference between the plans for most people.
I think McCain keeps stressing that he will cut taxes, but I think it's unrealistic. I also think that a few people IRL who told me they are going to vote for McCain because he is going to cut taxes are a little misguided

I dont believe any president will cut taxes -
Words of wisdom!!!
Neither candidate is going to be able to cut taxes b/c of the sh!thole our economy is in and plus someone needs to fund the billions weekly they are spending on the "war" in Iraq.

Re: Is $603,403, per year rich ???
I have a pretty good hunch that if he makes it into office, the cut off for tax increase isn't going to be $250K. I'll be surprised if it's even as high as $200K. I think more people will be affected than realize and probably not only by $12. It's funny to me that people are taking what being said during this campaign season (on BOTH sides) as gospel... funny to think that it would actually turn out as idealistic as it seems.

I kind of agree.
Where the IRS is concerned, it gives to one pocket while reaching in and taking from the other 3.

There are a whole bunch of graphs describing how the Obama/McCain tax policies will affect different incomes and the range is huge - is there a reason this graph has been used so often on this site?

My problem is not with the actual amount - it is with his characterization of those who earn above 250K and above as rich and the rift that has been created by such a characterization. I do not vote based on his "proposals" (although I studied them extensively so to imply that some of us do not understand them is presumptuous at best- I am quite familiar with Tax Law) because, to me, proposals are just that. I focus on ideas and the methodology behind his ideas. I believe in social programs but I do not believe in his plans or his ideas on the roles of the Federal Government. His ideas go against my interpretation of the constitution and the concept of Federalism.
I completely agree. And I think that it is really silly to think that because you "point something out" everyone will automatically have your point of view. Unfortunately it's a little more complex than simply the plan they are proposing. It's naive to think that you can take campaign promises as things that will definitely come to pass.

But then LIPA will pay you anyway for all the mega solar energy you will be generating from your roof!!!! So you will be back to the $600K/year.

my reason is b/c I figured this is the one the OP was referring to since it's the only one I've seen.
I'd love to see more. bring em on.
I think a few people have said..we should all be prepared for what is coming. I don't think anyone will get out of this unscathed.
ETA: I think people on the boards are arguing the proposed POLICIES of the candidates.
not even the candidates themselves can know exactly what they WILL do when they enter office...they cant', b/c they are not there yet and quite frankly are not privy to everything going on.
So I don't think talking about what McCain says he will do or what Obama says he will do is a reflection of idealism or naivete...it's simply arguing the information put before them.
what we believe they will be able to uphold or accomplish is another thing entirely and that of course, remains to be seen.

there are a bunch of them - if you google obama/mccain tax plan, a bunch will show up - one website i frequent - www.abovethelaw.com had a real specific one where you could punch in numbers and unfortunately it did not come up with the $12 figure that was listed! ITA that it is impossible to know exactly what will happen until either person actually is in office.
