Is 8 months toolate to pierce DD's ears?

I was a real procrastinator when it came to piercing DD's ears b/c my Dr. doesn't do it, so I would have to find one that does. The other day on the beach, I asked my friend for the number of her ped. (her DD is 1) so I can get DD's ears pierced. She told me she thinks it is too late--at 8 months they will pull the earrings out. I asked her when she thinks it will be safe to pierce them, and she said "3 years old."

Is this true?

Did I miss the boat?

DD is almost 9 months. Personally, I wouldn't pierce her ears now. She's into EVERYTHING.

I'm going to wait until DD goes to Kindergarten. If she wants to get them done then, I'm all for it. But I didn't want to pierce them as a baby. JMO.

i pierced dd ears at 7 months and everything was fine, its only a month difference so i dont see a big problem with it.

i would not do it now - i don't have a DD but seeing how DS pulls on, tugs and rubs his ears when he is teething, i'd be afraid of them coming out. i would wait until she was older.

I guess it depends on the DC. I could not pierce DD's ears before 9 months. As a small infant, she was constantly pulling on her ears to sooth herself. She stopped at around 9 months. I pierced her ears at 9 months and she was fine with them. They did fall out but it was when she was sleeping.

I didn't do it when she was a baby because DH wouldn't let me. He finally gave in and I did it at 2. I'm not sure if 8 months would be a good age. My DD was still putting things in her mouth then and if the earring fell out, I'd be worried she'd eat it.

I honestly think its fine, DD is 8 months and yes she tugs on her ears, she has earings in, we peirced them when she was 4 months old....get earings that are flush to her ears, we had regular balls in her ears at first and those came out whenever she tugged, but we got ones flush to her ears and she can't get them out!

See that is what would worry me, if they fell out while sleeping couldn't DD choke on it?

The earring that they pierce their ears with are on their so tight. I have a hard time pulling them off sometimes. I pierced Jaidy's at around 8 months. It was fine. I say go for it

we pierced Alys around 7 or 8 mths and she did great - didnt play with them or touch them at all. Only cried for a min or so when they did it. no issues at all...go for it.

We had DD done when she was 4months by the pediatrician...i was so happy I did it too!! She NEVER touches her ears or the earrings. DD's hair fell out at 1 month and after a TON of boy comments I got them pierced...the Only prob was having to hold DD down while they made the dot and then the Dr sprayed the ear to freeze it..Click, click and it was pierced...she was smiling by the time she was sitting up. It is far worse to get it done later than after a year. GOOD LUCK!!!! It was the best decision I made to get it done. No more boy comments after that :)

I am getting DD's done in 2 weeks by her ped. She will be almost 6 months old by that time.

DD is 9 mths./ I just asked the ped if I missed the boat. We decided in my case it was best to wait until she was older for a variety of reasons (1 being I would probably be too nervous she will swallow them).

Marron was about 7 months when I did hers. We had no problems.
