Is a dead Rudolph right?
okay, I live in SI, on a pretty friendly and active street. 2 houses down from me, 3 semis were just put up. My aunt lives across the street from them. This street is in no way a country street, it isn't busy, but gets its fair share of traffic. Last night, I was walking home, and I see one owner of a semi(both him and his wife are podiatrist). I thought he was putting up reindeer decorations.
Turns out he went hunting, shot a huge deer, and hung this deer up by its hind legs onto the front stoop railing. So it was hanging down in their driveway. He had sliced it open and was gutting it. This is taking place literally 6 feet from the sidewalk.
My 4 year old cousin across the street was mortified, my uncle pulls up to the house after they went shopping, and all the kids in the van see this sight. My mother and aunt are ticked, and my father said it is a definite health violation.
My vegan siblings are ready to picket in front of this guy's house. If this happens again, should the cops be called? Is this guy breaking the law?
TIA

UGGGHH!!! That is so gross. I still remember when I was about 14? maybe, walking to school with my best friend, and this house on my block had a deer carcass hanging from their tree in the front lawn. I was so freaked out!!! I'm not a big fan of hunting anyway, but I understand people do it and you need to gut it, but I don't think it should be put out where anyone may have to see it!!!
your poor little cousin!!!!

that is what is weird, he has a backyard, and a raised deck he could have done it on, but we probably did not want the blood in the wood. He was covered in blood. I don't think he had ever done this before. His wife was in the house so embarassed.

Re: Is a dead Rudolph right?
Its disgusting. There may be something illegal to it based on a local ordinance and how he is GUTTING the poor animal in teh front yard, especially during a time where children celebrate reindeer.
I think someone should go over to him and nicely ask that in the future he guts his animals in a more private place like the backyard. You can let him know that it is scaring the children.
Hopefully he will have the decency to apologize and will honor your very reasonable request. If not, then next time he does it, I would call the cops and see what they say.

I think that it's illegal to dump blood and guts into the sewer system since it's not really designed to handle waste like that. Also, if the guy doesn't clean his driveway well, the blood, etc. remaining could attract insects and rodents which could lead to public health issues. Disease, rabies from rodent bites, etc.

Re: Is a dead Rudolph right?
thanks everyone. I really think that cops would have sided with us after seeing the scene. I know it won't be left alone, just trying to see if we have a leg to stand on. I am going to milk his wife for info.

There are specific rules about disposing animal blood and guts. It may be a very big concern if it got into the sewer system.
If the neighbor's wife isn't helpful, I would gather the neighbors together and see what they say. There is strength in numbers!
ETA: Next time it is going on, take pictures.

I'd try & find out the law for NYC first. I'm not sure where though.

Re: Is a dead Rudolph right?
good thinking. Well, most of the neighbors are my relatives. But the family in the other side of the semi must have been in shock. They just moved from Poland. They were probably regretting the whole attached house thing that night.
