Re: Is a dead Rudolph right?
My dad was a hunter and he would hang the deer in the backyard, the garage or the rear portion of the driveway. He took it elsewhere to butcher it, though. There is no way my mom would have allowed that scene in the backyard. Actually, most of the kids in the neighborhood were curious to see it, but as I said, not with the guts hanging out of it.

thanks. I mean it was dark out, but he had 2 spotlights on it. It was like this illuminated deer sliced open and he was going at it. It is not like there house is set back from the street, it was right there.
If he wants to hunt, then that is nobody's business. But have a little class.

If I remember correctly, my dad and his friends would gut them in the woods, then pack them with ice until they got them home and then took them to a butcher.

Re: Is a dead Rudolph right?
I would like to know where he hunted for this deer. Gutting is suppose to be done right away so not to poison the meat.
Anyway, YUCK YUCK YUCK... There are probably laws that prohibit in inhabitated areas. I would call the police or 311 and report him.

Re: Is a dead Rudolph right?
Department of Health & Mental Hygiene 800-698-0411 said it sounds like a health code violation, but wanted me to check with the Veterinary Public Health deparment. The Veterinary Public Health dept said it was not a violation.
Deparment of Health said if you want call them to register a complaint anyway.

I dont know I guess I must have lived in the back woods in past lives...
I must have lived close to those woods as well :). I don't foresee a problem except for some discretion but most times if its more then a 6 point it's still going to be above a fence line. My Dh gutted his deer yesterday and the meet is being prepared at the butcher and flying home on the plane with him. It provides are meat for the following year.

Re: Is a dead Rudolph right?
Ok forget the law part ... or health violation ... but the fact that there is no common courtesy .. if I wanted to see a deer be gutted I would be hunter which I am not. So to me I think it is in extreme poor taste to have everyone see this. I personally am against hunting and would have flipped my S***. HIs property or not it is just plain SICK

Re: Is a dead Rudolph right?
Being from a family of hunters. There's nothing that can be done. He has every right to do that on his property. Regardless if its the front or backyard. Only way there would would be a health code violation is if the meat was bad(diseased), and he wasn't disposing of it properly. Sorry about your niece.

Im not sure how that is against health code
There are specific rules about disposing animal blood and guts. It may be a very big concern if it got into the sewer system.
If the neighbor's wife isn't helpful, I would gather the neighbors together and see what they say. There is strength in numbers!
ETA: Next time it is going on, take pictures. I don't think you have to worry about the sewer system. The only way its going down there is if he washes it down the drains in his house or flushing it down the toilet. I would be worried about it going down the drainage system.

thanks guys! Seems like it was a poor judgement call on his part. I saw him hosing afterwards, he has a drainage system at the bottom of his driveway.

In most areas of NYC, they have combined sewer systems, meaning that sewage and stormwater all end up in the same system. I don't know about Staten Island, though. On Long Island, the sewer and stormwater systems are mostly seperate systems.
There is a greater problen when things end up in the stormwater system because often, if they systems are seperate, the stormwater system drains directly into the sound/harbor/ocean. This is why they tell you not to dump things into catchbasins. Just a little FYI.

The comments I made before were correct.
