Is a private room worth $700/night?
I would normally want the private room but don't think it is worth $700/night. I'd rather use that money on a lot better things.
We live 5 minutes (walk) from the hospital so DH could go home, play with 2yo DS and come back. I don't mind at all if DH doesn't spend the night with me at the hospital.
I guess the X factor is what kind of roommate I may potentially have.
Would/did/are you paying $700/night for the private room?

No, as nice as it would be to have a private room, I am not about to spend a couple hundred a night on it, I will be there for two days, I have had roomates for years in the past, 2 days will not kill me.

i'm gonna say no!
at the time you might be like.. UGH I wish I had a single room... but once you are out of there and home..those few nights you spend in the hospital won't be in the forefront of your mind anymore and it won't matter as much.
I say NOPE! not worth 700 a night.

I don't think it's worth it. Even if yo have roommate from he11, its only for a couple of nights.
I never paid for the private room, and wound up never getting a roommate, and being alone for the entire time, so you never know!

NY Presbyterian charges $700/night for the private room.
I would pay $200 for the private room.

i'm delivering there too and facing the same issue. I've been told over and over again to go for the private room. it irks me that it's SO much more for NYP b/c like you said if it were $200, it would be a no brainer.
I think i'm going to do it though... just knowing myself and it being my first and not knowing what to expect.... i don't want a roommate. If you can afford it, do it.

We got a private room when I had DS so DH could sleep there...If my DH couldn''t I personally would not bother...
Got lucky with DD that I didnt get a roomate until the day I was checking out..Hoping for the same luck this time

I wouldn't pay that for a hotel, why would I pay that for a hospital room?
No way. $200 maybe. $700 is outrageous.

Not for $700...I had a private room for $350. For me it was worth it more for the private bathroom than for the roomie situation. I have a thing about 'public'/shared bathrooms

penny!
And if we had still lived in the city when I just had DS 2 I would have paid it again. I don't care how great your roomate *could* be, the thought of dealing with someone else, their baby and their visitors is enough for me to pay whatever the cost. And we're faaaar from rolling in it. We knew the cost beforehand and planned ahead.

I didn't have a private room when I had DS and I wound up with 1 awesome room mate (3 nights) and an annoying room mate (1) night.
I wouldn't say it is worth $700 for a private room.
But, this time I am having twins, and a big part of me really wants the private room. I just feel like it will be so hard as it is, I can't even imagine a room mate. But I am trying to hold off on my decision to see how crowded maternity is when I deliver. Since there are rumors that Winthrop tries to give private rooms as long as they aren't too busy.

My BF delivered at NYP in September and she was debating about it. She ultimately didn't do it and only had a roomate for the very last day of her stay. She was really glad she didn't spend the money to do that.

I delivered at Mt Sinai and paid about the same for the private room. I had twins and a c-section, I was there for 5 days. Yes, it was a lot of money. But it was worth it for me because I was sick (from the drugs) the first 2 days, vomiting none stop. Then to have DH stay with me to help take care of both girls during the night was a blessing.
