Is anyone a vegetarian?
I am considering doing this...for many reasons. How hard was it to do? What should I be eating more of? I have not been eating meat for the past week and a half and I do get a little dizzy sometimes. I know I need to get more protein - what should I eat? More beans?

Re: Is anyone a vegetarian?
I have been one for about 12 years now. I do eat dairy. For me, it is not that hard to find other things to eat. The only annoying thing is my DH loves meat, so we are always eating 2 different meals.
As far as making sure you get enough protein, which I admit I am not the best at. You can get it from things like Tofu, nuts, peanut butter, beans, protein shakes and bars, cheese and other dairy. Would you eat fish? I don't but some vegs. do.

I am. I make a lot of rice and beans with veggies and tofu. DH loves his meat, so I am usually making the same stuff over and over.

Re: Is anyone a vegetarian?
I am (DH too) and have been for 10 years! It's not hard at all when you get used to planning the meals...at first it takes some thought. Do some reading to help figure it out. It's a great thing to do for your health, the animals and the environment!

Re: Is anyone a vegetarian?
About being dizzy...be sure you are getting enough protein and B vitamins!!! Make sure you have a good multivitamin in your diet, IMO.

Re: Is anyone a vegetarian?
I am a vegetarian-- I eat dairy- so I am a lacto ovo vegetarian.
As far as eating-- like any healthy person- you should make sure you are eating balanced meals.
Eat eggs-- I eat egg whites. They are so low in calorie and great protein. I also eat a PB&J every day for lunch-- make sure to only have the suggested serving anount. You can eat cheese-- but don't over do it.. There are also a lot of great soy products out there where you can get protein. There is also pasta that is high in protein as well. I also eat a lot of veggie Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones-- thay have a decent amount of protein- 7+ grams per serving and provide balanced meals while also controlling calories. Oh-- and also lots of yogurt.
Other products like quinoa are great too.

Re: Is anyone a vegetarian?
I was for 2 years then went back to chicken off of the bone to chicken on the bone to steak to eating everything...
I mainly ate beans, veggies, nuts. Since you're TTC, you should talk to your dr if you want to change your diet. (Nag, nag, nag..like you don't hear people giving any solicited advice during TTC...)

Re: Is anyone a vegetarian?
I was a lacto-ovo, but went back to eating poultry and fish. I think the toughest things for me were eating at other people's homes. I could always control what I cooked and a lot more restaurants are veggie friendly now than when I started in 1990, but when I got invited to other people's houses, they seemed to have more of a problem with it than I did.
