Is anyone an Elementary School Self-Contained Classroom Teacher or a TA In A SCC?
I went on an interview today in a public school to be a TA in a SCC working 1:1 w/ a student and the AP mentioned toileting. I am curious as to what TA's have to do in terms of toileting? Does it mean that I just take the students to the bathroom or could it be more involved based on the physical needs of the student? I regret not asking more questions about this. Maybe you teachers can help me? Thanks!

Usually toileting could mean any number of things. How old is the child? What is their disability? you may be required to assist the child in the bathroom (i.e. help undo buckles), change a diaper (if the child is not toilet trained), or simply walk the child to the bathroom. It really would depend on the childs need. I know at my school TA's can do any of those things...Hope this helps!

I had a girl with CP a few years ago- the TA assigned to her had to help her get her clothing down, lift her and pivot to put her on the toilet, and help her get herself back together. She was confined to a wheelchair and had very limited mobility on her own.
HTH!

Thanks ladies! I have no idea what the needs of the child are that I will be 1:1 with. I don't even know what grade yet either. I will know if I get a second interview Friday.
