is anyone else into garage sales?

Rich is working & I've been up since 6, so I made my grocery list & headed out about 8:30 to look for garage sales before i went food shopping.
I went to a bunch, then I found a "community sale" a whole neighborhood of summer cottages & year round homes were having sales today. About 20 all together!
I bought a great beach chair, a scrapbooking book & gardening book & a small rowboat for $23 Chat Icon that we'll have to go back for later.
Most of the stuff was knick knacks or baby stuff, but I still loved going to each one to see what they had.
Now I have to find a few things to freecycle today....that's my rule I get rid of the same number of things I bring in to keep myself from getting over run with crap.

Re: is anyone else into garage sales?

I'm constantly telling my DH I want to start going to them, but we just never seem to have the time. Maybe once the kids are a little older. I used to go to them all the time with my father when I was younger...ahhh, memories! Chat Icon

I would like to have a garage sale because we have a lot of new/good "crap" I would like to get rid of and Ebay just isn't worth it, but I've never seen any one in my neighborhood have one in the 7 years we've been living here. I don't know if it's a neighborhood "faux pas" or what?! Chat Icon The middle school, which is less than a mile from me, recently held a community garage sale, but I didn't know about it until they were having it. Chat Icon

when I lived in my townhouse garage sales were not allowed. We had one last year & sold so much crap. We actually did quite well.
I'm thinking about doing another later this summer.
We just got back from picking up the boat, Rich is amazed that it was only $23

Re: is anyone else into garage sales?

DH makes fun of me and my BFF because we love to have them. Last summer we had three or four of them.

I love to clear out my old stuff (and make a little $$ in the process) and I like to know that my junk maybe someone else's treasure!

I'm going to plan one for later this summer with my neighbors. I have tons of stuff I should get rid of.

I buy and sell on craigslist.com a lot, I sometimes visit a garage sell if I have time and it catches my interest.

How does it work when you sell small things on Craigslist? Do you ship it? Have them come to your home to pick it up? Meet them somewhere?

My DH and I have only purchased big items locally where we had to go pick them up.

I usually tell people to come pick stuff up, it freaks DH out that "strangers" come to our house Chat Icon

We just had one a couple of weeks ago. We made some good money too. I like going to them sometimes. Sometimes you find good stuff.

Re: is anyone else into garage sales?

We live in an area that's doing a community yard sale. This is the first year I am participating, but I figure if I pull all the stuff out, whatever doesn't sell will now be out to take pics and try to sell on Craig's List. After that, it’s going in a dumpster Chat Icon

I was surprised by how many people came to it last year, I guess it's easier for people because it's like a big flea market since so many people in my neighborhood do it.
