the national debt is already doubled beyond what bush left us with. ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!! and how long has Barry been in office??.... geez!
even if (hopefully he will be) Barry is outa here after 4 yrs, we will still feel the repercussions of his and pelosi's actions for generations to come.
and spending what we did on a war we couldn't "win" and letting deregulation run rampant had no part of this? Blame who you want, but we are not in this mess because of Obama. At least he is doing something. Like I said before, no one could do any better-anyone else's plans could have been worse or the same. There is no easy fix.
ITA. Obama did not create this mess. I respect him for facing these issues straight on. It scares me how much we're spending, and I'm not thrilled with bailing out the people who created this mess, but I do not envy Obama.

I know there is alot more than unemployment being so high and the foreclosures.
This stimulus Bill is a complete joke and people think its to help the economy but have you read some of the stuff on it. Now how can the state of NY get 2 million dollars go to research on Grape genetics.
If Bush had done this everyone would have tore into him worst than they Obama.
I know alot about what is going on.

yes, im concerned. im worried about the future of our country in general. in some ways, we are setting up a pretty abismal future for our grandchildren.
ITA this is what happens when people with a socialist/crazy leftist liberal agenda who want to expand government and make the people totally dependant on government is in charge....
it is the death of capitolism my friends...
ITA! I can't wait for 2012 so maybe we can get some real change....Hopefully, Obama will not be re-elected.
I agree with this! But then again I have been looking forward to 2012 since Election Day
He is just digging this country further and further into a hole that we will never get out of.

Grapes are a $3.5 billion chunk of NY's economy. It's an important industry in the Finger Lakes region and the research will help put people to work. There are lots of wineries in that area, and I'd imagine that they will benefit from this research. I think a lot of people overlook the area as a source of great wine, and it's too bad. DH and I go annually and love the region.

Sheesh, really
yeah, that's what I was going to say...
I love how much the bar has been raised since the village idiot was returned to texas.
Obama inherited a spiraling economy, 2 wars, and a country without a viable energy policy, health policy, and a crumbling infrastructure.
shame on him for not cleaning everything up in his first month!
I'll add one more thing... he's already put in place plans to close guantanamo, he ended torture, he will bring the troops home from Iraq soon, and is attempting to salvage what is left of our economy....
to boot, (not like most Bushies care), he ended the very real 'war on science' and restored funding to researchers... ya know, the people Bush always touted as being at the forefront of innovation that will drive the US economy into the 21st century? yeah, us.... Bush said all these things while cutting our funding!!!!! Merficully, it's restored, and I have hope to maintain my career......

I dont think that ANYONE was expecting him to solve this crisis within the 2 months he has been president. BUT, with what he is done so far, it really scares me. The spending is out of control.

Re: Is anyone else worried about the out of control spending of this administration?
honestly, I knew it would cost a lot to fix this mess... it did in the 30's too. FDR spent a ton, it was eventually cut in congress in the late 30's, which caused a 2nd recession, and then WW2 caused a 2nd balloon in fed spending and that was what finally got us out of it.
you can't resolve a major economic meltdown w/o anything drastic and $$$. And as much as I dislike the concept of TARP, bush had to do that too.... otherwise we would have tanked 10X faster.
It's not pretty what's going on, but it's necessary. If the economy doesn't get rolling soon, our gov't would amass debt even faster (due to lack of tax revenue)......

It took 8 years to get us into this mess, its not going to take 2 months to get out of it. i have faith in him that he is trying to do the right thing, and already has made great progress. My two cents, thats all.

the bottom line is if people aren't spending the money, government HAS to spend the money. If government didn't spend- then we would be in a depression, not a recession..

Re: Is anyone else worried about the out of control spending of this administration?
I am still giving him some time - it is early yet, but I am more than scared. The spending is out of control - just look at what was contained in the stimulus package. What also upsets me is who he is appointing and not appointing to positions in his cabinet. I saw on one of the news programs that hardly any of the positions in the Treasury Department are filled. I think it was primetime that tried to contact people in the Treasury Department and there was noone to speak to. that is scary, considering the times we are in. I think he has more important things to do than go on Jay Leno.

Re: Is anyone else worried about the out of control spending of this administration?
I'm a bit nervous about the spending, but I'm still hopefull that it will turn the economy around. I think that we have to be aggressive to get out of this mess.
And I'm not sure if this is true everywhere, but from what I've heard, the housing market is beginning to turn around a big because of the low interest rates and low prices. In the DC area foreclosures have gone down in the last month. To me, that's a sign of positive things to come.

I have to interject here because anyone with any advanced knowledge about Finance and Economics knows that this financial mess was a LONG time in the making and not something that developed only withing Bush's 8 years. While that may be what the "average" American thinks - you (the general you) can speak to any economist or any expert on complicated financial transactions and see that this was "the perfect storm" that took many years to create. I think to presume otherwise shows a degree of naivete about economics in general.
With respect to the topic at hand I am dissappointed at the way that congress is throwing money at problems in a way that seems indiscriminate. While I know that it may be a catastrophic blow to our economy to allow some of these companies to fail it may perhaps be the "bitter pill" that we need to take. I am concerned with the amount of debt we are taking on (especially with respect to programs that aren't designed to stimulate our economy) and what would happen if investors in U.S. Treasury Bonds decide to start selling. China, one of the major investors in these Bonds has already expressed trepidation. The ramifications of all this could be catastrophic and as such I believe that they really should have tailored the stimulus bill and reduced it to things that would truly impact the economy and not use it as a way to pass other "pet projects".

Re: Is anyone else worried about the out of control spending of this administration?
I may get flamed for this, but I have to admit, I am becoming quite indifferent to the spending, the economy, the AIGs and Madoffs. Since having my DD in December, I have barely had time to read a paper and I am glad. Some of you may remember that I was quite a vocal member of the election threads and that fire has dwindled to a mere spark in the past few months.
I am going to live my life. Enjoy spring. Go to the beach this summer. Buy a new scanner. Try to lose the last 10 pounds of baby weight and see how this all goes down without worrying my pretty little head about it.
I feel like it's out of our control at this point, so why not just live life and be happy?
I voted for Obama and I do not regret my vote for a second. Do you honestly think McCain would be doing a better job right now? The answer is: who knows? But I am damn sure that we would not be in a better economic state than we were had Obama lost.

Re: Is anyone else worried about the out of control spending of this administration?
Honestly, I'm not talking strictly LIF here because I've heard a lot of this IRL lately, but so many people were raving that the only reason Obama was elected was becasue people voted for him trusting that he could change things overnight & that clearly can't happen. Now the same people who didn't vote for him & didn't believe that he could change things overnight are upset because, well, he didn't end the crisis already
I am scared of everything that's going on. I want to trust Obama & I am trying to have faith that he will help get us out of this mess, but it is going to take time. I'm scared not only becasue of the spending, but because nobody really knows what will happen or what can be done to get us out of this faster. It's scary times out there & I don't want to see more families suffering. At this point, I don't feel like anyone else could've had things going better. I don't regret my vote. All we can do is wait a little longer & see what happens & pray.

Re: Is anyone else worried about the out of control spending of this administration?
It's crazy!!!
I'm not an economist, but it seems to me that restraining some spending, raising interest rates a little bit and pulling out of the war would help us reign in inflation!
I can't imagine that any of the pork projects passed in the legislation will actually rev up the economy!
Such bs from everyone (all the polticians - reps and dems)

I think it's a lot of money, but I knew that it had to be done...even GWB knew it had to be done (he started the spending, even when the Reps were yelling at him).
I think we need to let BO get to at LEAST 100 days.
I am a little confused by some of the comments.

It was 10.6T in January and now it's 11T. not sure how that doubled? Maybe you mean the annual addition to the debt...which is possible since this stimulus package is big.

I'm not worried. I never thought we'd be able to fix the economy overnight. And honestly, I'd have no idea how to fix it, so I voted for someone who I thought would! It's out of my hands now, so I've put my trust in a president who I trust. That's about all I can do.
