Is anyone familiar with the K12 online homeschooling program?
My girlfriend is seriously considering this for her DD who is a junior in HS. She has diabetes and severe anxiety and mom is thinking this may give them both peace of mind. As it is, if schools reopen in May she's keeping her DD home and will continue the distance learning.
She would be home schooled for her senior year, and she doesn't seem to care that she'd be "missing out" on senior class stuff.
TIA for any info I can pass on.

Which program? Typically homeschool parents create their own curriculum and submit it to their district for review.
There is a school in the city, the Beekman School, that provides a quasi homeschool hybrid. You pay private school tuition, and then all instruction is done in home. You are required to have a certified teacher come meet with you a certain number of hours per semester/subject, and your tuition covers a portion of their salary. If your tutor charges more per hour, you would make up the difference. They do provide all curriculum and materials though.

There is a public school for K-12 that is 100% online. Someone I know in Florida is using it for her soon who is a freshman in HS. She is not homeschooling him - he is being taught by state certified teachers via video
This is it - I think.

You need to write a letter to the superintendent and get the program approved.
With that said, every student I have ever had who tried home schooling came back after 1 quarter. The homeschooling program causes more anxiety than actual school.

Re: Is anyone familiar with the K12 online homeschooling program?
Thanks everyone. I just spoke with her and she said that since she's on Long Island there's no "free" school nearby. She would have to pay tuition using K12s approved programs. The cost varies from like $3K to $12K (for George Washington University).
She's actually more concerned with her daughter's diabetes and the reporting that COVID will make a resurgence in the fall and the vaccine won't be ready until next year.
Thanks again.

She doesn’t need to use an online program to homeschool though if she’s concerned. There’s more than enough resources if she’s interested.
