Is anyone here a recruiter for a staffing agency? Delicate situation!
I am in a bit of a delicate situation and wonder if anyone here would know the logistics. I am also very sad! :(
I have been getting a good amount of freelance gigs from a staffing agency where I worked with a specific recruiter who was getting me jobs pretty consistently and was also an overall nice and pleasant person to deal with. I just learned (from the person who replaced him) that this recruited left the agency. When I spoke to him at the end of december, he did mention that he was away but said nothing about leaving. My guess is he was using his left over vacation days after giving his notice.
I am very sad to hear he is no longer with that agency and while I do hope to be getting more work from the agency itself, because hopefully, the clients who I did work for will continue requesting me, I would love to keep in touch with my favorite recruiter and work with him wherever he went.
Here is the kicker: he NEVER told me he was leaving, my guess is because contractually he is not allowed to try to lure his contacts from the agency he was leaving. However, nothing should stop ME from contacting HIM on LinkedIN, right? While I still get work from the agency he used to work for? I shouldn't wait for him to contact me, right?
Thank you for reading through my rambling, if you are still with me...
I am feeling very down about this! Kind of a sucky start of a new year!

IMHO you are an independent contractor and should have your hands in many baskets. I did recruiting for a law a few years ago and MANY candidates were registered with MANY agencys. I would call and they would say "oh, I was contacted by another company for the same job".
No harm no foul.
IMHO sign up with as many people as you can to get work. if you liked him contact him.
I would not say anything to the original agency since he might not have left on good terms. But they wont ask you either.

I asked my BIL's gf this because she is a headhunter... you can contact him, if he has a non-compete clause though, he may refer you to someone else in his current agency.

I would defnitely contact him via LinkedIn. I'm sure he has a time period where he cannot recruit clients but non-competes are actually difficult to enforce.
