Re: Is anyone not buying their DC much for the holidays?
My DS is 7 weeks now and Hanukah is days away. Would I wrap gifts and then unwrap them myself? We are still buying the essentials, especially because we were superstitious before he was born and we did not fully stock his nursery. He will get some gifts from family and we will take some pictures to remember his first holiday season and maybe I will buy him a few extra things.

Re: Is anyone not buying their DC much for the holidays?
We didn't get DD much. Her birthday just passed last month and she really doesn't need anything. I bought her a kitchen and 5 small toys....basically...that's it in a nutshell. Whatever she needs I just tend to get her along the way not for the holidays. And as you said, I'm sure our families will go overboard.

Re: Is anyone not buying their DC much for the holidays?
Last year DD was 3 months old for Hanukkah...I bought her 1 toy...that's it. I didn't even wrap it. This year, she is 15 months old at Hanukkah...I bought her 3 toys. I don't feel like I'm being cheap, she doesn't know it's a holiday, and she doesn't need anything so why spend money just because. I know she will also get a few things from my side of the family. My IL's gave here cash, so I put it in her bank account!

Re: Is anyone not buying their DC much for the holidays?
My mother goes nuts, but my ILs just give her money. MOney is nice, I appreciate it, but its not fun to unwrap. I mean, she's 2 now, it doesn't matter, but when she's older i wish they'd get aher a few things to unwrap. Last year she was 10 months and we bought her like 6 or 7 things. She played with the wrapping paper and boxes, so this year I am not going too nuts.

No, you are not cheap at all! Even if you could only give DC one gift that is out of love, they are blessed.
I have such a large family that they are going to go nuts for DD )although I have asked that they be a bit calm). DH and I decided to get her 3 toys from us and some clothes. She'll be 5 months old and will be more interested in trying to eat the ribbons or bows to know any better

Re: Is anyone not buying their DC much for the holidays?
We will probalby get DD 1 or 2 things. She'll only be around 5 weeks old and my mom and sister already went crazy buying her stuff. I don't see the point in showering her with gifts this Christmas especially since she couldn't care less...unless they are bottles of formula

I don't think you're being cheap. I don't think they need that much, especially that young. I went WAY overboard last year and she didn't even know what to do with everything. She didn't even want to unwrap anything. This year I'm scaling it back, but she also doesn't get that much from family, so it's pretty much all us. But with everything your DS is getting from family, I think you're fine!
