Is anyone really bored (esp. teachers)
And wants to read my personal statement for my teaching fellows application and tell me how to cut down 400 words?
This is what I get for doing things at the last minute

Thanks a million. I actually JUUUUUUST finished and submitted my application, which I started months ago and kept putting off.
AHHH. Wish me luck.
Did you do math or science immersion? What are your thoughts on the program?

Do you know why I had a hard time? because I didn't read directions, and I started writing as if I was writing 3 separate essays that were 500-1000 words each, then I realized DUH it's one essay. I made it in under the wire at 986 words, down from 1373. I had to cut some good stuff though!

Re: Is anyone really bored (esp. teachers)
I started the program in 2001 when te choices were more open. I taught general education first grade for five years, but this year I have the gifted class. I think that the program is great, but I think that there have been a few changes since I finished. For example, they now focus on math, science and special ed Also, in the early years they paid for the masters in full, now I think that they subsidize it, but you are still eligible for an Americorps grant for two years which I believe was about $4,700 a year back then. The pre-sevice training is short and intense, but you do learn a lot. I have friends that had BA's in eduation and they felt as unprepared as I did when they first started. You learn on the job very quickly. There are 5 fellows at my school and we've all been there for 5 years and noone plans to leave anytime soon. Overall, the program is very supportive. Good Luck!!!! Feel free to fm me if you need any more info.

Thanks so much. yes, and I also noticed that since I started my application 6 mos ago they have made the requirements for science and math immersion tougher so I no longer know if I am eligible for either program. I know those are the highest need areas.
FH has an interview with them, but because of his degree in compsci he is definitely eligible for both.
I think I'm more suited to be an early ed classroom teacher anyway. Hopefully they'll see it that way too.

Re: Is anyone really bored (esp. teachers)
Do fellows get the same health benefits as regular teachers? When do they kick in?
