Is anyone tempted
To buy maternity clothes that they see on sale. My friend just emailed me that target was having a sale and she said, "go buy maternity clothes while they were on sale". It seems like a good idea, but do you think it would be weird to buy them if I'm not prego yet? I am undecided.

Re: Is anyone tempted
No maternity clothes will be bought for myself until I am pregnant and need them. Nothing for the baby will come into my home until the chilc is born. I come from a long line of superstitious Jewish women and this is just what was/is done. Anything purchased for the child stays in someone else's home til after I deliver. At most, we might paint the room that will be long to our child - nothing else - not even furniture.

ditto And there is no baby shower either.
DH's cousin's just had their first baby and while she was in the hospital after giving birth, her mom, MIL and DH set the babies room up. The store they bought the crib and changing table from stored it for them until she had the baby.

I personally see no issue with it, but I don't believe in the "jinx yourself" thing, so whatever makes ya happy!

I wouldn't. And besides, you never know how big you are going to get or what size you will need at what time of year.

I definitely wouldn't. But the clothes are so cute so I can see why the temptation is there

I was even asking a friend of mine if it was ok for us to register because we dont do baby showers. She said it was ok just as long as nothing comes in the house. People buy gifts afterwards. I suppose I'd have to only buy an outfit to take the baby home in - I'd give to someone to hold. I actually have the outfit I was brought home in. It was a yellow onesie.

Re: Is anyone tempted
No, that kinda feels like the idea buying a wedding dress before you're engaged. I think some things you save and enjoy when they happen.

I think the no baby showers in Italian families is an OLD tradition... I think even the old school Italians now do the baby shower thing.
I def. would NOT buy Maternity clothes before being PG - NOT b/c of the superstition thing though. 1) Maternity clothes will go on sale again... its not a biggie. 2) Who wants to store and look at Maternity clothes while you wait to get PG?? Its more fun to shop for them PG when you have a belly to fill them out or when you really need them. 3) If you don't know what month you are getting PG in for sure you have no idea what you will need. Maybe you will me 9 months in the summer maybe you will be 2-3 months in the summer??? How would you know what kind of clothes and what sizes to get?

I have Jewish family members and friends. They all have registries but no showers - everyone buys a gift and sends it or brings it to the home after the baby is born.

Re: Is anyone tempted
I wouldn't. you won't know when you will get pregnant & what season's clothes you'll need. It might be a waste of money. It took a while for me to "pop," so if I had bought a lot of clothes , it would have been a waste.
