Wow, I guess I'm the only one who had some sympathy for this girl. I can't imagine what she went through and where her head was at to make such a decision. I did not think she was insincere. Of course what she did was a MOST disgusting thing, but I will leave her judgement up to God. She has to live and die with her actions.
I understand where you are coming from even though it is a HORRIBLE thing. Maybe she had NO support and everyone should remember when they were 16. Would they have been able to make the decision to put the baby up for adoption if she was scared to tell her parents she was pregnant? I am in NO way condoning what she did but just thinking about what shoes she had to walk in.
I agree. I also wonder how the parents didn't have any clue that SOMETHING was wrong. I mean, she had the baby in the bathroom for Gods sake, did no one hear anything?
Maybe they were at work? I didn't see the show so I don't know all the details.

No...it was Thanksgiving or something like that. She excused herself from the table, had the baby, and came back and continued eating.
Her parents were normal and I'm sure if she went to them for help they would have.
I just think something inside her snapped and she just handled the whole situation completely wrong. But the worst part is her boyfriend went along with it. Jumping on her stomach like that!!!! Horrible!!!!

No, actually her mom picked her up from school b/c she felt sick and had cramps (contractions) - dropped her off at home while she went back to work. She had the baby, and afterwards when her family came home from work and school and started calling her down for dinner. Then she went downstairs to have dinner with them. Just thought I'd clarify...

Oh, yes, I remember this story! How 2 people could be so horrible to another human being is unbelievable. If she did not want her parents knowing, she could have dropped the baby off someplace so it could live.

Re: Is anyone watching Oprah today?
I felt no smpathy at all for her, she didnt even come across as being sorry. It was like a whiny fake cry. 6 years for that? She deserved a lot worse IMO.

agree. i have 0 sympathy for this girl, 16 or not. i think everyone should remember that she didnt just stuff it in a bag and disgard the baby. she STABBED it first, then put it in the bag half alive, filled the bag with rocks and then threw it in a shallow river!

Re: Is anyone watching Oprah today? (Very upsetting topic)
There is a HUGE difference between a scared pregnant girl who doesn't know what to do...and a girl who delivers her full term baby and stabs it in the chest and then places it in a duffel bag. When someone has instincts like that, there is something missing.
I'm sorry.....like someone on Oprah said...being 16 is no excuse for not being HUMAN. We know right from wrong. She made many many wrong decisions that day, and I don't believe the crying act.
I feel she is most upset that it haunted her and she was eventually caught.
That poor baby.

I have seen this episode before. I really think this girl is despicable and disgusting! I swear, she had 9 months to think of an alternate plan like say.....putting the baby up for adoption maybe? Bringing it to a hospital or a church? When I think of the people who cant have children and then hear stories like this I want to throw up.
I agree...that poor baby deserved a chance
I see these stories and hug my boys and so thankful for them.

Re: Is anyone watching Oprah today? (Very upsetting topic)
The logic that she must have been in a really horrible place to do something like that would apply to all murderers, no? Yet, I think anyone who takes a life purposefully must be in a really, really horrible situation... That doesn't mean there shouldn't be SERIOUS consequences for their actions. I am curious to know if the people who have sympathy for this girl feel the same thing toward other murderers.
I'm not saying it's not possible to feel sympathy towards a murderer (nor am I saying I have no sympathy for them) - I just don't think this girl was in a unique situation that should afford her more sympathy than a lot of other murderers. If she stabbed someone else's baby in the chest and stuffed it in a duffel bag, I can't see people feeling the same sympathy -- I'm just curious if people this this situation is in some way more unique than other murders...
And 16 isn't that young. It's old enough to know you don't kill babies - and more than old enough to pay the consequences for doing so.

Re: Is anyone watching Oprah today? (Very upsetting topic)
I watched the 1am rerun...my GOD there is something wrong with that girl.
She claims she thought the baby was stillborn....so why did she feel the need to STAB HIM in the chest with a KITCHEN KNIFE??!! (That she washed, and put back in the drawer with the rest of the family's dinner knives)
She said he was "deformed" - the poor baby had cleft palate and you delivered him in a TOILET, you schmuck!
I don't understand how her mother - a REGISTERED NURSE- that played the "cool parent" (they were divorced) didn't realized that her oldest daughter was pregnant.
Animals kill their own young, not humans. 6 years was NOT good enough.
I changed the show - what became of the BF that helped her?

Re: Is anyone watching Oprah today? (Very upsetting topic)
I think the BF that helped her at the time only got a few months in jail. Than at the end of the show, Oprah asked what she wanted to do with her life after jail and she said she wanted to have children. SHE SHOULD BE STERILIZED!!! It's situations like this when I wish we weren't such a democratic society.
