noah is already on nutramigen and zantac due to reflux, but his is soooooo extremely gassy and it really affects his sleeping. he wakes up in a bloodcurling scream most of the time and then you hear him pass gas like a machine gun! i am so upset at the doctor b/c they dont think it is milk protein allergy and wont write a letter of necessity so we can have elecare covered. but yet they will give us a precription for it. i truly think he has an allergy just like his sister. what do you do when you disagree with the doctors????

DS had terrible gas, just as you describe, we tried a million things and something either took, or he grew out of it. The worst was from 6-8 weeks, which is common to be the worst.

We never felt he could have milk allergy because he didn't have any symptoms, gas isn't typically a symptom
Mayo Clinic: List of Symptoms of Milk Allergy in Babies

Here is the combination of things that we did to help.

1. Mylecon in every bottle
2. Good Start Gentle Plus Formula (this was best for us)
3. Playtex VentAire bottles (tried everything, these were best for us)
4. Gripe Water, when ever he was too fussy
5. chamomile and fennel tea a few sips between meals
6. Baby Yoga
7. Swaddling tight, to put pressure on the belly.
You can do this without arms.

If your instinct tells you its something more than the doctors believe, get new doctors, you should always be confident in your doctors advice. If you are not then I would switch.

Thanks!

We've pretty much done 5 out of the 7 you listed.

the thing is he is presenting just like his sister did and gas can also be associated with severe reflux so many times they go hand in hand.
What's odd is that his dr. felt hannah was more gas than reflux and he feels Noah is more reflux than gas despite being exactly the same with exception of him being a good eater (though that is starting to worsen)

He has every symptom of a milk protien allergy including bloody stools whcih did subside on the nutramagin, however every other symptom has gotten worse.

It's very frustrating.!!

Thanks again

Blood in the stool is a big symptom of a milk allergy. You should go see a pedi GI. Nutramigen didn't help DS with his allergy at all. Alumentum almost killed him. Elecare has been a life saver for us. Maybe you should order a can of it through there website and try it with your DS and see what happens.

ITA, esp since you're losing confidence in your ped. Has he/she tested a poopy diaper since the switch? My DD's blood was visible to my eye and she did great on Alimentum, but if she didn't, I would've brought in a diaper for my ped to test - does no harm to test and at least it could rule it out for sure. Also, Zantac didn't work well for my DD's reflux - we graduated to Prilosec or Prevacid, I forget which and that's when her eating issues all went away but her reflux symptoms and her milk protein symptoms were different and she was still pretty gassy afterwards, but not the point of screaming.

My SD has a dairy and soy allergy and had terrible gas along with with most of the other symptoms listed. I BF, but once I changed my diet, the gas got much better. Have they tested his diaper for blood? Have you seen a GI doctor?
