Is Dandruff Shampoo safe in early pregnancy
I've read that certain chemicals should be avoided because they make their way through your skin and should be avoided during very early pregnancy (I'm five weeks).
Is dandruff shampoo safe?
thanks!

Re: Is Dandruff Shampoo safe in early pregnancy
Dont think im nuts but i googled to see what they say and this is what I got from one article.. its off line so:
This is a very unique situation that really needs to be addressed. It may seem improbable, but there are many women who suffer from dandruff and use dandruff shampoo during their pregnancy. Some women who are pregnant for the first time may think that they are being over concerneed or too cautious and this is natural... but to be frank, their concerns are justified; you can never be too careful when comes to a pregnancy. Here are some simple steps that you should take if you are considering using a dandruff shampoo and are pregnant: If you are allergic or have an allergy to the shampoo you should not use it under any circumstances. If you are pregnant and using a dandruff shampoo containing the ingredient "Coal Tar" while you are pregnant it may be wise to stop because it affects cellular turnover. While there have not been any tests run on animals or humans to support this claim it is just food for thought. "Pyrithione zinc" is another ingredient found in dandruff products. If you are using a dandruff shampoo while pregnant here is some information to consider... Pyrithione zinc has not been found to cause any defects in pregnant women that use the dandruff shampoo pregnant ingredient. There is cause for concern though because there is no evidence for or against the ingredient showing up in the milk of mothers who breastfeed. "Selenium Sulfide" is yet another ingredient found in some dandruff products. If you are pregnant and are using this dandruff shampoo while you are pregnant here is something to consider. As with pyrithione zinc, there is no evidence to show that defects would occur that could harm a baby during the pregnancy. However, this ingredient can also be absorbed by the skin which could cause problems for pregnant mothers in other ways. This is what we have found out about using a dandruff shampoo while pregnant in our research. In conclusion, we suggest that you try to find natural dandruff remedies to use if you are pregnant and using a dandruff shampoo currently. If you would rather use an over the counter dandruff shampoo while you are are pregnant we strongly suggest that you speak with your OBGYN about the potential risks involved.
