lots of protein/fiber, so that's good! I love it too and rather not look at the fat content
eta: guess it depends on how it's made as to whether it's fattening or not

It's not bad. Olive Oil and chick pea...like 3 grams for a serving. But I eat like four servings.....

we live off of hummus at my house - it's literally spread on everything we eat...
none of us have dropped dead from it - so go on and enjoy!
it's made w/chick peas, tahini (sesame paste), olive oil, garlic, and lemon...

I finally tried it (I'm a weird eater) and literally can't stop!! Wanted to make sure it wasn't equivalent to eating a big mac or something.
So happy to hear it's not too bad for you. I bought some for lunch today and just had some more as a "snack"....

LOVE Hummus and no, it isn't bad for you. It's also rather easy to make yourself - garbonzo beans, olive oil, tahini, garlic & lemon. yumma!

It is high in protein and not terrible in terms of fat. It is a much healthier alternative to peanut butter which people say claims similar nutritional facts. However, anything in excess isnt good for you.
ETA - 4 grams of fat for 2 tablespoons

Oil is very much a big part of a healthy diet.
Oil /= fat.
Olive Oil is VERY healthy...frying twinkies with it...not so much.
eta: I LOVE hummus.
you should look up the stats on "mediterranean diets" the put the average corn fed, beef eating US diet to SHAME

It isn't bad for you. Some brands are higher in fat then others. It depends on the amount of Tahini and Olive oil. I like to make my own so that I can control the fat content better, plus it is super easy to make.

Hmm, I don't really know! I just kind of blend it until the consistency is right. If I had to guess, one can of garbonzo beans, about a TBSP. of olive oil, half a cup of ff yogurt and about a half of a lemon? How's that sound? Haha. It's the consistency that is hard to figure out. I just add more yogurt or sometimes a little water if need be. HTH!
