No, I don't plan on having as big of a christening with this one. Unfortunately, DH's family is huge so a small gathering isn't possible.

there is nothing wrong with that. People, especially people close to you should understand. My sister and my cousin had just immediate family and there was no problems.
If anyone asks when it is, tell them bc maybe they want to go to the church but just tell them only immediate family is coming over after.

I had a huge Christening (100 ppl) for DD #1 but was miserable and overwelmed, I did not enjoy it. So this time I plan on a very small mostly family occassion. I have no guilt about it!

I only invited family (the ones we see often) and close friends to Julia's and will do the same with this baby.

I see nothing wrong w/ it...I would just say to those that ask you are only having immediate family & they are welcome to the church.
My bro had a huge one for my first niece & then it was literally just my bro & his wife & me & my husband, my 2nd niece's godparents (didn't help that it was that huge snowstorm & the church didn't resked)...it took us 4 hours to get to stamford (should only take an hour)

DH's friends' 2 daughters are 11 months apart and we were not invited to the 2nd child's christening. DH just communicated to the couple that there were no hard feelings and we understood that they only wanted family there.

It's not bad, it's what you want to do and people should respect that regardless. I would just tell people that you are in the midst of planning an extrememly small ceremony and leave it at that.
