Is it rude to ask...
people to take off their shoes when you are having a party. It's supposed to snow on Sunday and that's Roman's party. I don't want yucky shoes all over the house especially when there will be kiddies crawling about. What do you think? My DH says it's rude.

Re: Is it rude to ask...
I understand why you would want that. I would want to be given advance notice. Let's say I wore cool boots with a heel. I wouldnt' want my pants dragging on the floor or a hole in my sock.

Re: Is it rude to ask...
I always have people take their shoes off when they come over, we used to have an almost white carpet. My family/friends just do it now without even asking.
BUT for a party, I wouldn't ask people. I would just put out a really long runner near the door and hopefully people have enough of run to clean their shoes off before they hit the rug.

Re: Is it rude to ask...
Someone did a post about this on NFR too, I say its not rude, its your house and if you want there shoes off they should listen, for the amount of time they are there I'm sure they wont miss there shoes....
Plus I would take my shoes off right away before going into somesones home if my shoes were all messy. JMO!
ETA: Some people have boots or shoes that are a pain in the a$$ to get all the water dry on the bottom of them (like my DH's boots) so I wouldn't want to be walking around with napkins every 5 minutes at my party wipeing up water, or having people slip all over my house too!

Re: Is it rude to ask...
I used to make everyone take their shoes off when DD was crawling all over the place. I was obsessed with keeping the floors and the carpets clean. However, for a party, I would make an exception....I don't know if everyone will be okay with taking them off...

Re: Is it rude to ask...
OK I think it's rude.... If it's going to rain/snow, have a rug or mat in front of the door so people can wipe their feet. Some people may take it off on their own, but I would not ask people to do it.

Re: Is it rude to ask...
I never mind when people ask me. But, I don't ask people to take off their shoes. Maybe put a few rugs or towels down at the door for people to wipe their feet on.
If it were me and it was snowing, I would ask the homeowner "should I take off my shoes?" which I almost always do when I enter someone's home.

I agree. There was a very long thread about this on NFR just last week so if you want to look it up and see the varying opinions, you can.

Re: Is it rude to ask...
okay, what if I provide everyone with cute slippers?
okay so if there will be shoes worn the dog WILL NOT be going into boarding. If you don't care about the kiddies and my house I don't care about you getting dog fur all over your clothes!

I agree... I would hope people would know enough to wipe their feet if they are dirty

Re: Is it rude to ask...
My girlfriend had a lot of us back to her house 2 weeks ago (when it was raining) after her DS's birthday party. The first people in took off their shoes so everyone thereafter took off their shoes. She has white carpets throughout her house so everyone kind of just did it. She didn't have to ask anyone (at least not that I heard). The party was at a gym though so we all just spent the party without our shoes on. Maybe we were all just used to it?

Re: Is it rude to ask...
I don't think it's rude and would be the first person to take my shoes off - asked or not asked. If you have a baby crawling all over the floor, do you want them crawling where people bring in yucky snow or just shoe gunk in general? But I am probably in the minority since I always take off shoes in my own house.

No, especially since it is rainy out. I would think it could be a safey hazard if someone slips on something wet

Re: Is it rude to ask...
Are you ready for a billion pairs of yucky shoes to be piled by your door ?
I dont think it's rude, Ive taken my shoes off at many homes. and in yucky weather, it's definately more called for.
I had white carpets when we moved into this house, and I really didnt like asking people to take their shoes off (someone I know has NO problem asking us at her house, yet she tramples right in to anyone's house without taking her shoes off now that irks me )
and just a sidenote, but Im sure the baby wont be crawling around the house when there's a party going on, right?

Re: Is it rude to ask...
Personally I find it rude to ask people to take off their shoes in a home. I know some people do automatically and that is fine. If it is snowing most people will not drag snow all over a house. But I would never ask people to remove their shoes. I also don't get carpets in my home that people cannot walk on. That is just me.

I agree with the carpets in a home. the previous homeowners here had WHITE carpets dining room, living room, entranceway and corridor ! needless to say it didnt last long (even before kids, my house is just a someone's always over kinda house. and I was never one to ask anyone to take their shoes off, and shampooing carpets gets tiring really fast but WHITE???

why wouldn't babies be crawling around, it's a 1st birthday party. I wouldn't imagine everyone holding their babies the whole time
