Re: Is it SO bad to vacation without DS?
No way! How is bringing a baby on a vacation relaxing?? Unless it's a family style vacation, it's not going to be fun. Someone is always going to have to keep an eye on him/her. You'll have to adjust schedules of activities for feedings, naps, diaper changes, etc.
You two deserve some time to reconnect and de-compress as a couple ALONE! You've had alot to contend with and more than deserve a vacation without baby

Re: Is it SO bad to vacation without DS?
We have gone away 2 times so far without Andrew and doing it again next weekend. I see nothing wrong with it. Couples need their time to be alone. I think it is good for ones marriage. Andrew loves staying with Grandma and Pop Pop

I think it's a personal decision. For me, I can't imagine vacationing without DS -- but that's me. As long as you have someone you trust to take care of your son, go and have some fun!
Wouldn't you like to spend some time just with DH? Vacationing with your DC and then alone with DH is totally different.
Do you think it will affect DC in some way?

Re: Is it SO bad to vacation without DS?
I'm taking 2 vacations within weeks of each other without my kids.
Tell them the best thing you could give your son is parents who reconnect & love each other.

So when I do go away it is for (at the most) 4 nights.

Nope, we love taking DS with us on vacations -- we love taking him to restaurants, and into the city, etc. DH and I spend time together every evening after DS goes to bed, so we get plenty of alone time together.
Like I said, it's a personal decision and, while I see nothing wrong with someone making another decision, it's not the decision we would make for our family. As far as your question about would it affect my child -- for us, we wouldn't want to leave DS with someone else for an extended period of time. At this age, we feel being with mommy and daddy is best for him.
BUT, I don't want this thread to get veered off -- it's not about my family and I think it's perfectly OK for other people to make different decisions -- you've got to do what's best for your family.

Re: Is it SO bad to vacation without DS?
Thanks everyone.
My mom is really giving me a hard time about it (in a very passive aggressive way).
My dad says it's just a generational thing for her.
The thing is, DH and I have 4 weeks of vacation this year. We decided to do 2 weeks alone and 2 weeks with Logan.
That way we get some alone time and some family time.
We thought it was a nice balance.

Re: Is it SO bad to vacation without DS?
I totally think its fine to do that. However, my DH says we wont go on vacation without DS anytime soon. He is kind of against it.
But if you and your DH are in agreeance I say hell yeah. And have fun girl

Re: Is it SO bad to vacation without DS?
DH and I are planning a trip to Italy this October. As much as I love and adore my DS I want to sightsee and drink wine alone with with DH. It will also be my first time there so that factors in my decisision.....also, i plan to work on baby #2

Re: Is it SO bad to vacation without DS?
Tell these people to shove it........
Honestly, I love my children with all my being BUT you do need to have a relationship and quality time with your DH without Logan around.
Dh and I try to get away once a year without the kids - have done so since they were born. As much as we miss them its beyond wonderful to just "be".
I really enjoy our get aways - my parents and inlaws are very supportive of it so I'm lucky. I think they both know how much work our kids are and literally push us out the door. They love spending the time with the kids and we enjoy our time - it works both ways for us.
Honestly - just go and enjoy some quality time with your husband......you guys definitely deserve it and ignore the comments. Jeeeez, people do have lives outside of their children........

This is where my DH and I disagree. I NEED a vacation badly especially before #2 arrives but my DH will not go. He feels we made the commitment to be parents 24/7 365. I don't agree so if this continues I guess I won't have to worry about babysitting because my friend and I will go away for the weekend and my DH can stay home and watch my DD.

I'm with you. I couldn't and haven't done it but I don't see anything wrong with it. After 2 years DH and I had one night away 1/2 hour away from home and my mom came and stayed with her. I don't feel comfortable leaving her in someone else's care for an extended period of time yet. I feel like DH and I will get alone time again and vacations I'm just not ready for it yet. For now we do the family vacation. Again to each his own. I think it's definitely a comfort level. To the OP enjoy your trip. There's nothing wrong with it.

Re: Is it SO bad to vacation without DS?
I don't think anything is wrong with this at all... . If i had the opportunity to leave Nikolas with someone (wish I did, but I don't), I'd be on the next plane out of here with DH, even if just for a few days
Have a great trip and don't think twice about it
