Is it worth taking a trip to Ireland in February?

Or will it be too cold to enjoy anything? I went to Italy in Feb. and it was cold, but we were able to walk around all day with our coats open. I'm thinking Ireland (Belfast and Dublin) will be freezing...

It might be cold and windy and wet, but very often the weather in summer is cold, windy and wet. So if you are prepared for anything, I say go! It will be milder than NY in February, so if you can stand that...you will be okay

umm.. abso-f-ing-lutely!

DH and I went to Ireland last January. We were there for 6 days and had some pretty awful weather. The windiest wind I've ever seen, the hugest snowflakes, lots of rain.. but you know what? It was FANTASTIC!! Ireland is so prepared for crappy weather... you just duck into the closest cozy pub, get a pint and some stew and wait until the weather gets better.

this sounds awesome.

to the OP, we TRY to travel to Europe in the off season, so if it wasn't for tax season, I would totally go in February.

I third! I participated in an exchange program in HS in Ireland and went in February. It was wet and cold and as long as you bring your coat and some cold meds, you'll be fine! We walked along the cliffs of mohr, kissed the blarney stone, etc.

I went again to study at UCC (Cork) during June/July and the weather was somewhat the same with only a few days of no-rain.

It's what makes the country so lushly green!Chat Icon

yes....their winters are much milder and cold to them is 0 Celsius. it doesn't get much colder than that. also, air fare and most other things like hotels will be cheaper in Feb. the only negative thing about Ireland in the winter is that the days are so short.... it gets dark by about 4 - 5 o'clock whereas in the summer it doesn't get dark until 11 PM.

That is definitely true! You won't get much daylight in the winter, however today is considered "Summer" in Britain and its about 55-60 degrees and rainy. When the weather is nice, it is light outside and the kids play in the street until around 11 pm, so summer you will get more bang for your buck. The farther North you go, the lighter it is outside.

I think it would be worth it. February is actually the start of Spring in Ireland and it can be quite nice. A trip to Ireland is never based on the weather, so anytime is a good time to visit. You will also get the best deals on flights in the Spring, so make the most of it. Enjoy!
